I remember clear as day paying and tipping her well. I don’t know if the waitress or whoever might of stole any money. Who knows what could’ve happened. I’m waiting and hoping to receive a call from management to resolve the issue, I didn’t receive one. I don’t know who management was before or is now but who knows if I’ll ever come back… update:I had actually received a call and message from the owner. Very professional of them to do. And everything was resolved at the end. Just a big misunderstanding. Will definitely be back for another visit.

Hi Mr. Hurtado,
Thank you again for taking the time to speak with me personally. I’m genuinely glad we had the opportunity to talk through what happened and better understand one another.
I’m sorry our initial outreach caused frustration. When we reviewed the historical notes associated with your previous visit, our records reflected that a portion of the check had remained unresolved and was ultimately absorbed by the restaurant. Because that information is documented in our system, we felt it was important to reach out and clarify what had happened rather than make any assumptions about you or your intentions.
I completely understand that your recollection is that the bill was paid in full, and I appreciated being able to hear that directly from you. Our intention was never to make an accusation, but simply to reconcile what our records showed and handle the matter thoughtfully and responsibly.
Most importantly, I’m grateful that our conversation ended with mutual understanding and in a much better place than where it began. I was especially happy to hear that you would feel comfortable returning to Amelia Gene’s, and we would sincerely welcome the opportunity to have you back.
Cheers,

My husband and I went here to celebrate our marriage anniversary. We ended up wishing we'd gone to our regular celebratory restaurant We had complementary champagnes; a plus. Afterwards, we formally ordered cocktails. I ordered a French 76 and hubby ordered a Peach Sangria. His was good..very light which we think it was supposed to be. Mine arrived created with an onion or garlic infused vodka which gave it a savory note. Not expected, and could have been construed as a mistake..except, when I ordered a second one, it arrived the same way. (You see, whether this drink was a mistake or not; I actually found it interesting and enjoyable so I ordered another.) I think they should give it a name "AG Special" or something and put it on the menu.
The seafood dishes we had at beginning of service were good, but we felt a little too reliant on butter to achieve that result..without having the word "Butter" mentioned in the title or description of the dish. Had it been mentioned..the butteriness wouldn't have been so surprising. It was, overall, pretty good.
I had the Filet Migon as a main and hubby had Boar. We were asked how we'd like our meats cooked. I requested "well done"; hubby requested his boar "medium". (A first I've ever heard of this by the way, as pork is normally always cooked to well done.) Well, the meats were not cooked to preference at all. My steak was was between medium rare and medium..leaning more towards rare. Hubby's boar was also medium rare, leaning more to rare the lower he went down the bone. Neither of us like meats returned to kitchen for further cooking after they've rested as it usually dries and toughens it; which was the offer mentioned. There was never an offer to have the dish entirely reprepared. We can eat meats this way, but it's not our preference, which we'd clearly specified. So this read as a failure; either on the waiter's part or the chef's part. We aren't sure of whose fault, but we're definitely sure of fault.
The carrot cake dessert was quite tasty. But not good enough for us to return to this restaurant on that alone.
My husband left a review leaning heavily towards the waiter for the failures of our experience. ..The next day we received communication from the restaurant manager wanting to know of the event firsthand. Our experience was discussed at length. She was very pleasant..and her solution was to invite us to return to the restaurant at a future date and give them a second chance.🙂 ..An invitation that we may take them up on. We haven't decided yet. If so, we hope to have a much better experience.

Mr. and Mrs. Steve Morgan, because you have both now chosen to post separate reviews regarding the same visit, I want to provide the same factual context to each.
Your original review went far beyond criticism of our food or service. It alleged racial bias toward you as an interracial couple, questioned whether a member of our team was truthful about a legitimate visual impairment, and suggested that your drink had been intentionally made incorrectly because of that perceived bias. Those are extraordinarily serious accusations regarding the character of our employees and the integrity of our restaurant.
I personally followed up because of the seriousness of those claims. When Mrs. Morgan returned my call, we discussed that the steak was not prepared to the requested temperature, and I apologized for that—we missed the mark there, and we own it.
We also discussed the interaction with your server. When asked whether the steak looked well done, he explained that he is color blind and therefore cannot reliably assess doneness by color. He was then questioned further about whether he could distinguish pink from red, effectively requiring him to prove and defend a legitimate visual impairment after he had already disclosed it. Rather than simply accepting his explanation, his visual limitation was challenged and scrutinized—placing him in an uncomfortable position no employee should be put in simply for being transparent about something beyond his control. That interaction was subsequently interpreted publicly as evidence of racial bias.
We also addressed the suggestion that your drink had been intentionally prepared poorly. No member of our team intentionally altered or compromised a guest’s drink. During our conversation, I was glad we were able to clarify both of these concerns and provide context that was not reflected in the original review.
I was also glad that our conversation ended on a positive note. When the possibility of returning was discussed, however, Mrs. Morgan’s immediate question was, “How much would you be covering, and does that include the server tip?” Given the nature and severity of the original allegations, that question was notable.
Your original OpenTable review was subsequently removed by OpenTable for violating its review policies. The two reviews now posted here describe the evening very differently from that original account, including describing the celebration as ultimately “quite enjoyable.” At this point, the account of the experience has changed materially from the allegations that prompted me to personally reach out in the first place.
As a woman of color leading an incredibly diverse team, I take discrimination seriously in every direction. Diversity is something we are deeply proud of, and I will always protect our employees from being made uncomfortable or having their character, integrity, or professionalism publicly questioned when the facts do not support those accusations.
We welcome honest criticism of our food, service, and execution. When we fall short, we will own it. What we will not do is allow allegations of racism, intentional misconduct, or compromised guest safety to stand without providing the full context of what occurred. Our responsibility to hospitality absolutely extends to our guests, but it also extends to protecting the dignity and wellbeing of the people who work here.
Given the breakdown in trust surrounding this experience and the conversations that followed, I do not believe Amelia Gene’s is the right fit for future visits. We sincerely wish you both well.

Our experience at Amelia Gene’s was, in a word, disappointing. To set the stage, my wife & I went there to celebrate our twenty-first wedding anniversary. We traditionally go to Erling Jensen’s for our anniversaries but this year we decided to try someplace new.
We ordered drinks. I had the white peach sangria & my wife had a French 76. My wife said it was good but tasted different than she was used to. I tasted it & it had a distinct hint of garlic/onion, so I think it was made with garlic infused vodka. We asked the waiter about it & he said the bartender must have made a mistake. Mistake or not, it was surprisingly good and my wife suggested making it a signature cocktail. As far as the food is concerned, for the price point, it was okay. Not great but adequate. For starters, we had the Fresh Maine Lobster Tail and the Fried Gnocchi with Lobster Claws. Both dishes were good although my wife & I felt butter was doing more of the heavy lifting than it should have for the Fried Gnocchi. For our main course, I had the wild boar & my wife had the filet mignon. I’ve had boar multiple times before, so I know what to expect. The flavor was good, but the meat itself was sinewier than I had come to expect. The waiter did mention it was going to be leaving the menu so that could mean the source had a great but limited supply or that the supply didn’t meet the chef’s standards & won’t be reordered. It would have been good had the waiter known which was the case so, if the latter, he could have steered me to another offering. My wife’s filet mignon was ordered well done but when it arrived at the table it was a very dark reddish-pink medium that was close to medium rare territory. The waiter offered to take it back for more time on the grill but, in our experience, this results in an overdone steak rather than a well done one and there is a difference.
The carrot cake dessert was delicious, and, despite the flaws, our evening of celebration was still quite enjoyable.

Birthday evening, post-theater drinks, small plates, and dessert.
High-top near the bar was perfect for the four of us. Appetizers, small plates , dessert, and service was exceptional as usual ! They had sold through their chocolate molten cake, but were able to produce an off menu chocolate turtle cake for the birthday girl - well done. Our son requested an Affogato after snacking - not on menus but the service staff delivered once again… our favorite Memphis dining for a reason !!
