Had to give one star since there is no option to give zero stars. I used Ben Franklin for tax preparation for tax years 2020–2023. I later requested copies of my filed tax returns and related schedules, including Forms 4562 and Schedule E. As of today (09/19/2026), I have not received the requested documents. I was also quoted/requested to pay a $1,500 nonrefundable fee for tax preparation in 2025 after being told that it was because I had questioned them the previous year about their price breakdown, even though I had paid approx. $1200 to file taxes. So I decided not to proceed with them anymore and used TurboTax instead which costed me only $300. I contacted the firm to resolve the records issue, but till date the matter remains unresolved. They simply refuse to respond even though its my right to get the tax documents for the years I used their service. I am sharing my experience so prospective clients can ask detailed questions about pricing and how client records will be provided. Please use your own discretion. My response on 10/01/2026: This is an honest review based entirely on my experience with Ben Franklin tax. The owner’s response itself confirms that a $1,500 nonrefundable payment was requested before proceeding with the tax preparation. In my view, requiring such a substantial nonrefundable upfront payment is a serious red flag and something any prospective client should carefully consider before engaging a tax preparer. The other issue remains straightforward: I requested complete copies of my tax records, including the relevant schedules and forms such as Schedule E and Form 4562. Referring me to IRS transcripts does not address that request. If the firm maintains that these complete documents were already provided, they could have simply granted me access and uploaded them again on the portal for me to download. The purpose of my review is not to engage in a personal dispute. It is to caution current and prospective clients to do their due diligence regarding fees, refund policies, and access to their tax records before engaging. Readers can review both my experience and the owner’s response and draw their own conclusions.

Called to get an estimate on how much it cost to file a tax return with them, and he told me to “look online”. Why look online if I have you on the phone? Red flag. If I file a return with you all, and later called with a question… they would probably tell me to “look online”. Wow

• Negative: Quality, Professionalism

There are two aspects of Ben Franklin Tax Services. Technical skills and second is Customer handling. Their technical expertise seems perfect, and they have a good team of ppl, who provides help on Tax Questions always. But when it come to Customer handling, i really didn't appreciate and will just mention my experience. I paid $350 their Fees upfront without even a single Question, which btw is a huge money for tax Returns for 2020, and expected the team to schedule some meeting and discuss my Tax Returns. They rather decided to send me a Bill ( No Detailed invoice) of remaining $80 of their additional Fees and refused to discuss or provide Draft copy of my Tax Returns which i can review even to see- if we need to edit something or something is wrong - until i pay remaining balance of their FEES. I Really didn't appreciated this, at least they could have scheduled a meeting to go through my Tax Returns, and also explain why more fees - something which anyone expects. But what i found is - they are stubborn about their nickel and dimes, before even they can discuss... Not to mention, am still not finished filing my tax returns with them, and i just hope- they don't mess my returns or anything after seeing this review :-(
