Billy Raney Guitar Lessons

Billy isn’t just a pro guitarist and all around good person, he is an excellent teacher. You could go to you tube and watch videos but it’s never going to measure up to a teacher standing in front of you watching posture, hand and finger placement, attack strategy and keeping a clean sound. Billy provides a ton of materials for practice, helps tailor lessons to what you’re working on specifically, and focuses on ensuring good habits and practice regimens. Have just started but am picking a lot up from Billy. The group lessons are really helping me putting in the extra effort during my own practice time. Forcing me out of my comfort zone and trying a lot different techniques.

I failed piano twice and at 64 decided to try the guitar. Billy was recommended by a friend and I highly recommend him. He made me feel comfortable and I learned more in 6 months than I thought I was capable of. Unfortunately, life gets in the way and I’ve had to discontinue my lessons. But I highly recommend Billy!

I picked up a guitar for the first time in 2019. COVID meant teaching myself at home, after some beginning lessons. I never played in front of anyone other than myself when I came to Billy for lessons. 8 weeks later I was on stage playing rhythm on a Def Leppard song and a Blues Traveler song, in front of a small audience, the first time in front of anyone in my life, including my wife. I share this experience so that anyone who is in a similar situation and wonders if Billy can help will know that he can. Read the other 5 star reviews. I agree with all of them. Billy is experienced, talented, a great teacher and person. Everyone in this class is warm and welcoming and Billy reaches all us each at our skill level. Most are more experienced than me. I’ve learned so much so quickly.

I’ve been with Billy for a short time only, but have been taking lessons elsewhere for two years. The difference with Billy is absolutely phenomenal!!! Sincerely phenomenal! Firstly, he actually cares about me becoming a good and hopefully someday, excellent guitarist, and doesn’t watch the clock like a hawk eager to excuse me after exactly thirty minutes. Secondly, we actually jam together for awhile during the lesson and both have fun doing it!! I can’t wait for the next lesson every week and only wish I had been with Billy the last two years instead of where I was. I am quite certain I would be light years ahead of where I’m now. Obviously I would recommend this man at the highest possible level. Believe me you won’t regret it!!!!

I started guitar lessons with Billy as a kid in 1998. His teaching style and abilities kept me engaged, helped me learn, and inspired me to keep coming back to the guitar. As I became busy with life, school, and work I stepped away from my guitar and returned after about twenty years. When I was searching for a teacher I was thrilled to see Billy was still teaching. Through Billy I have learned music theory, great songs, various styles (classical, flamenco, steel string acoustic, and electric guitar), scales, chords, and how to play music with others. Billy is an outstanding teacher because he’s fun, personable, engaging, organized, on time, fair, and gives just the right amount of push to bringing the best out of his students and keeps them wanting to come back to the guitar and learn more. I will be a life long student of this wonderful instrument and continue to learn from Billy. I am grateful he is available to help me improve. I strongly encourage anyone from beginner to advanced to take lessons with Billy because you will become a more well rounded, skilled, and confident guitar player and you’ll have fun in the process!

Billy is an exceptional musician and teacher. He creates an inspiring and joyous learning environment. He is a master teacher who is super patient breaking down the components of a song, playful so that you enjoy the learning process, and professional so that you feel like you are learning from one of the greats. His enthusiasm for learning music is contagious and he strives to bring his students to an elevated level of their playing. I cannot recommend him enough!
