Visitors frequently praise the museum's unique architecture, thoughtful curation of Clyfford Still's work, and family-friendly amenities like interactive art spaces and accessible design. Staff are often described as welcoming and knowledgeable, particularly regarding the artist's biography and the building's features. Love this museum.
I've brought young kids here (2-6 yr olds) multiple times and they have a really great practicing area for how close to stand to the art. It's also rarely busy which I find perfect for going and admiring art with kids! They also have a back area on the top floor with a bunch of art supplies! I haven't done one of their baby art crawls yet, but I'm excited to do so soon!
Parking is paid street parking.
Really friendly staff.
One of the most unique museum experiences I've had, driven by the singular vision of the artist and the tremendous work of the people honoring that vision. A beautiful space that accentuates the art, rather than competing with it.
I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of the current exhibition (Still in Sound), with sound interrupting and intruding into any sort of reflection and conversation I tried to have with the pieces. I also wish there was more information about the art pieces themselves (any sort of context available, understanding that Still did not title nor explain his work), rather than comments and quotes from other artists about the work.
But the overall execution of showcasing Still's work throughout the course of his life, and the painstaking attention to conserving his art is something I will be thinking about for a long time. This is the one must-visit place any time I will be in Denver in the future, and I'm jealous that locals will be able to see more pieces as they are restored and featured. Also, the three staff members and one volunteer I interacted with during my visit were clearly passionate about this museum's mission, and were super friendly, helpful, and really a delight to interact with.
If you’re even a bit familiar with Still’s work, this museum is well worth your time. I was lucky enough to stumble into the immersive Still in Sound exhibit, a moving experience that will stay with me for a long time.
Cross your fingers that Fred Henrich is volunteering the day that you visit - he has a wealth of information that you won’t find posted on the gallery walls!
This is the definitive Clyfford Still experience. Overseer 93% of the artists work is located here. Well displayed, exhibits changed periodically, not overwhelming. We enjoyed our visit. Highly recommended.
I enjoyed walking through the museum, learning about Still, and seeing the evolution of his work. I was impressed with how thoughtfully designed the architecture and space were designed to match Still's style. I only wish there were more pieces to view from his expansive collection.
Love this museum. It's been about 2 months since I went and I'm still thinking about it.
I wouldn't count myself as an abstract expressionism buff, but Clyfford Still struck a chord with me. Also the museum invited sound designers to create soundscapes to accompany the most important paintings in each room, which was really cool.
The front desk staff was also really welcoming.
