I was disappointed by the way my concerns were received by the director at DE Academy. After learning that my child was on the autism spectrum, I informed the academy of his diagnosis simply so the staff would be aware and have a better understanding of his needs.
The director responded by saying, “We are not going to baby him or give him special treatment.” I found this statement insensitive and unprofessional, especially considering that I was not asking for my child to be babied or treated better than anyone else. I was simply communicating important information about my child.
As a parent, I believe that every child deserves patience, understanding, and respect. Informing a daycare of a child’s diagnosis should be an opportunity to have a constructive conversation about how to support that child, not an opportunity to make assumptions about what the parent is asking for.
I understand that every child is different, but I also believe that professionalism, compassion, and open communication are essential when working with children and their families. Unfortunately, this interaction left me concerned about how developmental differences are understood and addressed at DE Academy. I hope the administration takes this feedback seriously and recognizes the importance of approaching parents’ concerns with greater sensitivity and professionalism.

We understand how important it is for parents to advocate for their children, especially when discussing their individual developmental needs. We respect that responsibility and appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns.
However, we would like to respectfully clarify that the director did not make the statement attributed to them in your review. While there were differences in perspective during the conversation, the director made several attempts to explain the center's position and provide additional clarity. Unfortunately, interruptions made it challenging to fully communicate and reach a mutual understanding.
We recognize that conversations involving our children can sometimes be emotional, and we believe the most productive outcomes come when everyone has an opportunity to speak, listen, and be heard.
Please know that our commitment to supporting children with varying developmental needs has not changed. We believe every child deserves patience, compassion, dignity, and an opportunity to thrive.
While we may not always agree on every matter, we remain committed to treating every family with professionalism, fairness, and respect. We also believe it is important that our leadership and staff are represented accurately.

If you’re thinking about sending your child to this Madison location, DON’T! The center was not very sanitary. When my child first started, she caught a case of hand, foot, and mouth disease, and the center ended up being closed for about a week. They also don’t seem to work well with all types of children. If your child requires extra care, attention, or patience for any reason, it feels like they will find reasons to document every little thing and eventually use it as a reason to remove the child from the center. Also, Pharonica? Not very friendly at all. Since recently getting promoted, she has definitely become more cocky and less welcoming.Honestly, based on my experience, I would not recommend this center to any parent. Do your research and think twice before enrolling your child here.
BreShayla and Jer’merica are my baby’s teachers, and I absolutely love and appreciate them. As a first-time mom, I was so afraid to send my baby to daycare, but they truly put my heart at ease. I am so thankful for both of them—they are incredibly sweet, patient, and loving. Since my baby started school, I have seen so much progress, and I truly credit their dedication and care. They treat my child with so much kindness, and it brings me peace knowing my baby is in such great hands. I am extremely grateful that they are my baby’s teachers.
We absolutely love Miss Bre! She has been such a warm, caring, and positive presence in Calvin’s life. Although Calvin still isn’t talking much yet, we’ve seen such incredible growth in his nonverbal and verbal communication since he’s been in her class. He’s more expressive, engaged, and confident—and it’s clear that Miss Bre plays a huge part in that. One of my favorite things is hearing him sing his ABC’s with such excitement and confidence. It’s so reassuring to know that Calvin is with someone who not only cares deeply but also helps him thrive. We’re truly grateful for everything Miss Bre does!
My baby started in the infant room at DE Academy and 2 years later I’ve had not one complaint. Her teacher Ms. Bre has played a major role in her development with the daily activities that are planned. The whole staff as a team is wonderful. My baby runs to class every morning happy! Definitely one of the best childcare’s in the city.
