There are few places one can go in the world to find solace, inspiration, connect with compassionate people and come away with beautiful things and a plan to keep them alive. Welcome to Flora Grubb! A week or so ago, I was desperately trying to find the right plants for especially difficult spots in my garden project. I was pressured by time and money as the landscapers were almost done and I was way over my budget, and had been experiencing conflicting advice from Claude, Chat and Gemini. After grilling multiple other garden centers near me, I remembered Flora Grubb, drove across the bridge and rushed to the counter to beg for help. Elena laughed, and like a true medical professional they reviewed every symptom, asked detailed questions about conditions and worked their diagnostic skills, taking me through the magical property introducing me to things I had never considered and double checking the minutiae of size and conditions whenever I expressed doubt. After my first round I found Andee who again offered the same generosity in solving another mystery. The beauty of the plants and the uplifting spirit of both these women were nothing short of healing. As I was ringing out for the second time, I asked about my gardenia and Flora, herself started to laugh - "oh, she won't like it here" she said. When I explained that I wanted to bring a bit of my grandmother into my garden, she smiled and came up with a plan to help me provide the best conditions. I left with a car full of plants, inhaling the lovely smells of the soil and feeling like I had spent the day at a meditation retreat. We are so lucky to have a place like Flora Grubb in the Bay. As the world gets crazier, it is a comfort to know a sanctuary is waiting in Bayview.

Flora Grubb is not just a garden store, it’s an experience. It’s a beautifully designed space meant to entice you to meander and get inspired to garden. Everything is very well organized and discoverable, just in a natural flow. Beyond the lovely plants, they have artfully crafted pots and plant decor as well as trending patio furniture. The staff is always knowledgeable and friendly too. I miss the coffee kiosk, because that gave me one more reason to go, but I guess I don’t really need another reason :)

I got overcharged. I bought 3 plants; two were supposed to be $10.95, and one item was $12.95, according to the tags. After coming back home and checking the receipt, I saw they charged me $12.95 for all 3 items.
