I debated whether or not to post a review bc I hate to have a negative impact a provider/business even if it’s not my style. But… here it is, because I wish I read a review like this before I went. I came in for a relaxing sports massage, walked in with zero pain of any kind. I walked out an hour later with: a tingling & slightly numb arm, hand, and thumb from a new pinched nerve I’m pretty annoyed about; several other areas of soreness; a couple bruises (seriously!); $180 less in my pocket. I’ve had a lot of massages, but this was just…. confusing. It began with her literally climbing on me, and pulling my limbs in directions they really don’t seem like they should go. But I was like, maybe it’ll get better. Nope. It was fast paced, aggressive, intense. Before we started, I told her what areas of my body I usually carried tension in and to go easy on, and during the massage I asked multiple times for less pressure in those areas, but pressure did not seem to change. I also told her in advance what areas to avoid where I’m ticklish, but obviously, these were not avoided at all. When I moved or suggested not doing those, she would just say “stop moving” while she was painfully tickling my hip flexors… lol. Bossy. It felt like eternity. Yes, I considered just getting up and leaving many times, but I wanted to give her a chance, was excited for a massage, and honestly I was just feeling really beta after the whole climbing on me / bossy situation. Also, while I did mentally prepare for how I would leave if I had to, I thought about the fact that the blinds were wide open to the parking lot and that I’d flash anyone walking by. The most relaxed I felt the whole time was when she abruptly announced it was over. A few other things worth mentioning (but that I would have easily overlooked if the massage itself were good) — there was no music, no white noise, nothing at all. No aromatherapy; no oil or lotion. Just a room, a table, open blinds, and an adult human climbing on me. On the bright side, I think I’m less afraid of wrestling with my sons now, and hoping I can pay it forward to any of you unsuspecting potential clients looking for a relaxing massage. And healing touch— please don’t worry about replying to this review, Im not gonna ask for my money back and I don’t really care bc I know it was on me to get up and leave. I didn’t, that’s on me, just sharing my experience.

Wow. As a business owner, this is exactly the kind of review that stops you in your tracks. I read it and cringed right along with you. I’m truly sorry this was your experience with us. What you described is not the experience we want anyone to have at Healing Touch Massage. You should always feel comfortable, listened to, and respected during your session, especially when you communicate your preferences about pressure or areas you’d like avoided. I also really appreciate you mentioning the other details about the room and your overall experience. I’m taking all of your feedback seriously and will be addressing your concerns with our team. I know you said you weren’t looking for a response or a refund, but I couldn’t read this and not respond. As a mom myself, I know how much it means to carve out a little time for yourself, which makes me even more disappointed that this was how you spent that time. If you’re open to it, I’d genuinely love the opportunity to talk with you personally. Dana Owner, Healing Touch Massage

I really love this place! I have been going to this specific place for my massages. I see Maria, and she is great. As someone with TMJ issues, she really knows how to get the knot out, and I always leave feeling relief from my massages.

I have had multiple massages from Miranda and have always been SO pleased. One time while working on my tight hips she managed to put me to sleep; I woke up drooling, and she saw this as a high compliment (despite my embarrassment). I continue to be impressed with her deep understanding of the body and how a person's work, injuries, or daily routines effect the overall function. She readily answers questions and offers advice on excercises and stretches to look into to help keep my body strong and healthy! She finds knots in places I didn't know existed and I always feel like a fresh new person after she works on me. On top of that, she is genuinely friendly and inquisitive about my life and interests, and carries a wonderful conversation. I have never felt like i couldn't ask questions or voice what felt good or if I have needed pressure backed off. She has always been happy to discuss what she's doing and why it may have happened. I don't feel rushed or like "just another day at work" to her, EVER, and I love that! Another thing I would like to add is that you can tell just from looking at her that she takes her own advice about health, fitness, and wellness... but she has never made me feel bad about my body or my choices. I truly believe that she cares about everyone she encounters. I haven't worked with the other staff, but Miranda spoke highly of them. It seems to me that the company seeks quality professionals.

I loved going to Dana Durand massage. I’ve always worked with Miranda and she’s the best. Always knows how to treat knots and problem areas and gives excellent advice. I would have rated a 5-star. But my 3-star rating is driven by the very strict cancellation policy. For my last appointment, I had an urgent issue to tend to and called several hours before my appointment to reschedule but I was penalized and charged the full price of the service! I am honestly now too scared to schedule appointments with them. I am busy and can’t always predict a full 24 hours in advance..

Response from the owner · a year ago

Hi Rola, Thank you for your feedback. I understand that your schedule can be unpredictable, and I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been feeling hesitant to book an appointment. We do have a 24-hour cancellation policy, which helps ensure we can accommodate other clients who may be waiting for an appointment. Last-minute cancellations unfortunately have a financial impact on our therapists. We understand that unexpected situations, such as illness or emergencies, may arise, and we are always happy to accommodate in those cases. However, repeated use of this courtesy may result in the full payment being due for missed appointments. We also offer flexible appointment times, including evenings and weekends, to better fit our clients' schedules. I’m sorry that we weren’t a better fit for you, but we appreciate you giving us the opportunity.

Final Update: I am currently coming once a week to receive medical massages for my recent shoulder dislocation. While the original appointment didn't go as planned (the therapist used more pressure than I could handle, so I was a little bruised and very sore), I came back for an appointment with Marcie and have since received two wonderful massages that are helping me with my recovery. Dana and her team were quick to address my concerns about the initial massage and they made sure I was paired with the right therapist that can meet my specific needs. After my last two appointments I've made significant progress in my recovery, especially regarding flexibility and passive range of motion. If you require a lighter touch I would recommend asking for Marcie, Marie or Dana. If you are looking for deep tissue massage Candice is the person to go for. I highly recommend the place for its staff, atmosphere, skill and cleanliness.
