Google reviewers rate Hunter Animal Hospital 4.6 out of 5 based on 1398 reviews, with the owner responding to 46 percent of them. Positive feedback highlights gentle handling, friendly staff, and reasonable pricing for routine care. However, recent comments criticize increased prices, high doctor turnover, and poor phone accessibility after a change in ownership. Sadden how much this place has changed and gone downhill. In the past the have saved my dogs life and also tended to my dog and cat. However something has changed. They cannot keep the door open. They are constantly having to close. When you call even though they are supposed to be a urgent help they do not have the bandwidth of staff to help and will refer you all the way to South Jordan. Its sad and I hope they get it together
This clinic helped my dog so much. He was attacked by a couple of raccoons in our backyard and they got him in asap. Cleaned his wounds. Gave him meds and took care of him. I felt loved and cared for

Thank you immensely for sharing your experience with us. We are glad we could help your fur baby and provide the care needed.
I'm actually sad to write this review. I've been going to Hunter Animal Hospital for 10+ years (my dogs ages). I've never had any negative experiences, the prices were always seemingly fair and not too high, staff was helpful, etc.
Over the past four or so months, I've noticed a huge difference in the quality of service. There have been instances where I've been very visibly waiting to be helped after my dog's quick shot and have been ignored by the staff and others who came in after me were helped instead. The most recent time I went, I called to just notify them of my possible lateness (ended up still getting there 5 mins early), and this new employee who I hadn't seen before (I met him when I got to the appointment) was genuinely such a jerk to talk to. He answered, I told him I might be maybe 2 or 5 minutes late, and he was very put out by my calling to relay this information to him, normally I would think that staff would like you to call and let them know if you'll be any amount of time late to an appointment, it's common curtousey. It pissed me off, if I'm being honest.
I've been getting my dogs Librela shots here for quite some time now too, it's always a quick visit because the techs are able to administer this shot and I was always able to schedule my pups next appointment at the desk at the time I'm paying for the current service. As of my last appointment, I was told that I needed to call closer to the time that my dog needed her shot if I wanted to get her in and seen. I can do it... But why wouldn't I be able to schedule ahead of time? Isn't that what most businesses want? This also causes an issue because if I'm waiting to call to set up this appointment that could easily be scheduled at the front desk, then that means when I call there won't be any soonish availability for my dogs shot when it's actually due. Which just happened. Their WVC location didn't have availability for the shot until late, late Oct. but my dog is due for her shot on the 13th. Luckily, as mentioned, their new secret West Jordan location had availability, and I'll be unfortunately heading to that office instead.
Anyways, I just called today to get her appointment set up for next week (they told me to call about a week out), and now I'm being sent to this mysterious other clinic in West Jordan that I only had previously heard about them having the last time I called for an appointment. The gal on the phone (I'm pretty sure I know who she is in person) is always kind and helpful. I have no issues with her. I take issue with the almost hush-hush attitude about them having been bought out by a major vet corporation (yikes, expect less helpful feedback, less helpful staff, more money out of pocket for unnecessary screenings and procedures, big corps. aren't our friends.)
I'm not even kidding, I had no idea they had sold this location, although I saw the decrease in business professionalism since that happened, I only found out after trying to Google this WJ location they're now sending me to. I Google the second location, nothing, I got to their website, nothing, they haven't even listed on their website that they're merging and that they have a whole other location. Upon further investigating (trying to find the d*mn other location) is when I found all of the recent negative reviews on Yelp and Google that this place has gone to the gutter. Super sad. I more than likely won't continue using this locations services. They have horrible availability and I can't drive to WJ for a fast, in and out service for my dog. I'll be trying to find a small, local owned vet business that I can trust with my girl as she gets older. Bye, Hunter. It was nice knowing you.
Was having issues with my dog. Tried to call 3 times, since closest to my house. They never answer the phone, and never return calls. Left messages twice.
Apparently they are closed on a Friday at 2:30. Tried to call and the automated system says I’m calling outside of business hours and the location I’m calling is unavailable.
My wife and I were content customers of Hunter for years but, as others have recently commented, the service took a nosedive after the owners sold the business to a national veterinary chain. During a visit in August, we learned that most (if not all) of the existing vets voluntarily left the practice and I can only assume this is because new management sought to raise prices, cut costs, and ultimately lower the standard of care. Hunter is no longer a "local" Veterinary Hospital but instead is just another chain vet disguised as a neighborhood vet.
Since August, we have had three appointments rescheduled, seen price increases, were sent to another nearby vet, and unfortunately feel that the staff no longer cares about our pet's care or developing any sort of meaningful connection or relationship with us. Bottomline, we are moving on and are sad to see that Hunter has become just another Banfield Pet Hospital with ties to a national investment company whose main motivation is to make as much money as possible. I hope at some point they reverse course and return to their roots as a locally owned business where I would be happy to take my pets and spend my money.
Our visit was great as usual. They are so gentle with our dogs, one of which is a nervous wreck at the vet
