Thank you!
Heather is an amazing trainer also your biggest cheerleader. She has helped with my super anxious and fearful Sheltie. Who when I first brought to her was completely shut down almost all of the time to a dog who sees me as her self place. Heather put so much work into this baby and helped us be able to go into bigger place with more people than I ever thought would be possible. If you need any help training or modifying behavior reach out to them.
I recommend Rick and the Impactful Training team to anyone needing to find out more about their beloved dog as well as themselves. Simply put, Rick's training assistance was life changing for us and our 4-legged family member Blue Heeler Lexi. From counter surfing, to barking, dog aggression, and reactivity, Rick made a noticeable difference in empowering us to vastly reduce behavior issues and Lexi's anxiety. This included training on multiple methods that made a huge positive difference in our happiness and our Blue Heeler's happiness. And we continue availing ourselves of Rick and his team for pack walks and other training events to maintain progress. Again, I highly recommend Rick and Impactful training!
Heather is absolutely the best! I’ve been around several dog trainers over the years, and she is paws down the best in North Alabama! She’s incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and explains everything in a way that actually makes sense. She’s given me so much great advice on understanding my dogs, working through behaviors, and becoming a better dog owner. You can tell Heather genuinely cares about the dogs and the people she works with. If you’re looking for a trainer who knows her stuff and truly wants to help, I can’t recommend Heather and Impactful Canine Training enough. Five stars all day! 🐾⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Heather is sent from dog heaven! She has been working with me and my pups problems with finding the right balance with her energy!!! Her guidance brought my dog and I closer! She is highly recommended in my social circles!
I am so thankful to have found Impactful Canine and Rick during my search for a 2nd dog trainer. I have a reactive Aussie who would pull on leashes, bark and lunge at strangers and dogs, and it was so difficult to get him out to do the things I would dream of us doing together such as going to the park or on a hike and passing people or dogs, going through a drive through, and the list goes on and on. The straightforward, honest feedback and practical training he has offered myself and my dog, Neo, have been invaluable to me. We are still a work in progress but I was really starting to doubt if I would even be where I am now. Everyone who has a reactive dog knows the daily struggle of trying to do anything at all with your dog. Gaining the ability and confidence in yourself and your dog to get back out there again (even if it isn't perfect) has been a truly amazing experience. I would 100% recommend him to anyone who owns a dog and is looking for training.
If you’ve ever loved a reactive dog, you know how easy it is to lose hope. Every outing becomes a question of, “How is this going to go?” Eventually, we stopped going almost everywhere because it just wasn’t worth the stress for either of us. When I first reached out to Rick, I honestly didn’t have much hope. I loved Zeus enough that I had to try something, but I wasn’t sure how much progress was even possible. Looking back now, I’m incredibly grateful I made that call! One of the things I appreciate most is that Rick doesn’t just train dogs, he teaches owners. He helped me understand why Zeus was reacting the way he was and gave me practical tools that actually made sense. Every exercise had a purpose, and he always took the time to explain what we were working toward. That gave me the confidence to carry that work into everyday life when it was just Zeus and me. Today, we’re doing things I never imagined we’d be able to do. Zeus has walked through stores without a muzzle, explored new places, and instead of constantly scanning the environment, I get to see his goofy, happy expressions again. He’s become more playful, more confident, and has an energy I haven’t seen in years. Watching Zeus enjoy life instead of simply managing it has been one of the greatest gifts. One of the moments that truly showed me how far we’d come happened during a recent vet appointment. The veterinary team felt comfortable removing Zeus’s muzzle during his exam - and even considered leaving it off because he was doing so well! He completed a full exam and an ultrasound with only very light sedation, and for the first time, we made it through an entire veterinary visit without a single reactive moment! Months ago, I couldn’t have imagined writing that sentence. Progress with a reactive dog isn’t one big breakthrough, it’s hundreds of little victories that slowly give you your life back. If you’ve ever loved a reactive dog, you know some of those victories don’t look dramatic to anyone else, but they mean everything to you. Rick recognized and celebrated those moments with us, and over time those little victories became things I once thought were impossible. Because of Rick’s guidance, Zeus and I have a quality of life I honestly wasn’t sure was possible. He’s knowledgeable, patient, honest, and genuinely invested in helping both dogs and the people who love them. We still have more to learn, but for the first time in years, I’m excited about the journey instead of worried about what comes next. If you’re willing to put in the work, I highly recommend Rick and the Impactful Canine team!
Christy, this made our whole week. Watching Zeus go from a dog you couldn't take anywhere to walking through stores muzzle-free and sailing through a vet exam is exactly why we do this work — and you're right, it's the hundreds of small victories that add up, not one big moment. So proud of both of you. Here's to many more good days ahead.
I have a 2 year old Great Pyrenees that is difficult to take on walks. He growls, barks and lunges at strange dogs and loud pickup trucks. I dreaded walking him around the neighborhood because of his behavior. I reached out to Rick with Impactful Canine Training for help. Rick noticed immediately that Henry is not an aggressive dog, but rather a fearful dog. Rick used training methods to increase Henry's confidence while also teaching him that it is unacceptable to growl, bark and lunge at dogs and trucks. I do appreciate that Rick starts with the least intrusive methods of training and works his way up until something works. Now that Rick taught me how to deal with Henry on walks, it is a much, much better experience! Rick's training methods are geared towards your specific dog and not just a standard method of training. I also appreciate that Rick would do training sessions at our house, his training facility and at unfamiliar places. I HIGHLY recommend Rick and Impactful Canine Training - you won't be disappointed!
Thank you for this — Henry sounds like a great example of a fearful dog being mistaken for an aggressive one, which happens constantly. Glad the confidence-building approach clicked for him and made your walks enjoyable again. Appreciate you trusting the process!
Rick is amazing! he’s been training my puppy since he was 16 weeks and the growth has been phenomenal! the training has been personalized to what we need and our goals and I can tell rick cares a lot about his clients and the results. if i had to suggest a trainer to anyone i would tell them about rick at impactful cainine!
Thank you! It was wonderful working with you and Goode!
We've been working with Rick at Impactful Training for our 2 year old rescue Beagle, Benson. My dog loves Rick and is excited to train. We're working on reactivity to strangers and other dogs. Rick does an amazing job making each training session individualized to what my dog needs. I used to dred seeing people and dogs on our walk. But Rick has given us the tools to enjoy walking our dog. Benson is going to be the best "everywhere dog" when we're done training.
Thank you!
