I wanted to take a minute and share how great Zach and the crew are at LHSM. I'm a middle-aged guy who decided I finally wanted to really learn guitar, like I've been saying for decades. While it is mostly younger kids and teens taking lessons, I have felt so taken care of and important working with Zach. My sons have also both taken lessons and the quality of teachers they have is phenomenal. It seems like if you want to try an instrument, there's a place for you at LHSM. I also love the way they stress the importance of performing what you learn. While I haven't gotten up the courage to do a recital, like all the youngsters do, I know that one day I'll get there. If you're looking for an encouraging, healthy challenge, take some lessons with the great people at LHSM. You'll not only have fun, you might even gain some serious confidence as well. Thanks to Zach and all the staff who make music fun and build others up in such an encouraging way.
This is so meaningful to read, Michael. Absolutely loved being able to work with your kids, and it was especially great for me to be able to work with you on guitar. It was such a tumultuous time all around us and while we got much done on the instrument, just having the check-in and catch-up at the beginning of lessons was super cool (and helpful) for me as well during a wild time in history. Thank you for sharing such an amazing recounting of your experience. All the best to the Sweeney fam and thank you SO much for letting us be your musical guides!
Our daughter took Piano lessons at LHSM for a few years. We had a positive experience. The front desk staff and studio owner are kind and reasonable people who want the kids at this studio to be their very best. Our family enjoyed the seasonal Recitals. Our lessons were extremely consistent. The instructor was always on time, delivered a nice lesson, and was kind to our daughter. The only reason we left LHSM is because our daughter's High School schedule was just too much for "one more thing." We definitely recommend LHSM!
Thank you so much for the kind words Cristee! It has been a joy having you all as part of the school, and you are welcome back for more piano lessons anytime!
They charge $30 for a 30min conversation to explain how the classes are as if it were an actual class. I don’t think one should have to pay to ask information about the school. [Edited from here forward after reading the response]. Thanks for the refund I received, nonetheless I want to clarify several lies you wrote. My introductory lesson did not include anything you mentioned. There was zero instruction and although I had told you guys twice I could not read music the teacher put three different pieces of music in front of me to sight read, for that he had to leave the room, I kept telling him I could not read and he kept insisting for me to try, it's like telling someone - I don't speak french - and then they hand you a book in French and expect you to read it out loud, I felt awkward, asking myself what part of 'I can not read music" he did not understand. You only asked me about my background experience once where we talked for no more that 2 minutes, where I explained that I could not read music and could not play a single song but knew a few chords and some basic improvisation. If you consider someone that can not sightread Jingle Bells nor play ONE single song an "experienced player" your musical standards seem pretty low. It is also not true that you tried to contact me for five days, I only received one phone call, nothing more. It is true however that I did not bring any concerns at the end of the "lesson" because I thought it would have been rude on my part to express my thoughts in front of other people that were present at the time, my thoughts were that the extremely brief conversation we had about what I was looking for was completely ignored and dismissed as far as how to approach the classes, I had mentioned that although I wanted to learn sight reading I did not want to focus only on that and that I wanted to start with sheet music also to be able to play a few songs quickly, furthermore I also told you that I had quit my previous lessons because they ONLY focused on sight reading, and that was exactly what the instructor told me we would do, that we would play songs by sight reading. So here are my thoughts at the end of the lesson that I considered were too rude to mention: for two musicians to completely ignore the request of an adult student, by first saying that you had no problem accommodating to this style of teaching and later dismissing it completely, first you have a very bad ear because you don't listen, second you frankly could not care less. Thanks for your good wishes, I ended up finding a great teacher that listened to me, asked me the proper questions and is giving me great lessons, he has been recognized by Steinway & Sons with a top teacher award, it would not be appropriate for me to mention his name here but he is really good, in only a few classes, with a few tips I found myself improving and learning. I am now learning to play songs with sheet music and also doing the basic sight reading. I also wish you, all the teachers and all the students all the best.
This is genuinely disappointing and unfortunate to read, Alex. We are sorry your experience wasn't what it could have been. Your introductory lesson included active playing, sight-reading, musical instruction, and performance feedback throughout. It was not simply a conversation. We also asked about your playing background multiple times before the lesson. The fact that you were already an experienced pianist was never shared with us prior to the lesson. At the conclusion of the lesson, we asked how it went. No concerns were raised, and you told us you would think about becoming a member. After your review was posted, we spent five days attempting to resolve the matter privately. When those efforts were unsuccessful, we issued a full refund. We stand behind our instructors and our introductory lesson format. Despite our disappointment with how this was handled, we sincerely wish you all the best.
Took lessons for years at Lake Highlands School of Music growing up — great experience. Zach runs the school with so much care for students, highly recommend!
Guitar lessons with you were a blast Jason! We are also happy to see other Dallas locals enjoying lessons with us.
Lake highlands school of music has helped me grow so much in so many things. I am in the performance program in a band and I love it so much!
That wonderful to hear Lainey, we love having you part of our performance program and seeing you accomplish so much in your voice lesson! Keep up the awesome work!
My daughter started guitar at age 8 and she has been going for almost a year and the teachers are fabulous. Zac and Irene are the absolute best!!! I love the membership aspect which gives really great flexibility especially if your kiddo gets sick or there is a scheduling conflict. Highly recommend this place if your thinking about it just take the plunge.
Thank you so much for your kind words! It has been a joy having your daughter with us this past year. We're so glad you've had a great experience with us and that the flexibility of our membership has been helpful for your family. We truly appreciate your recommendation and look forward to seeing her continue to grow as a musician!
Exelente lugar🍴🥤
¡Les apreciamos muchísimo!
This is one of the best programs that i have been apart of. All the teachers are super understanding and cool, 100% recommend it
I can’t recommend LHSM enough. I had the unique privilege of being Zach’s very first student, and I took guitar lessons with him for many years. Watching him grow from an incredibly dedicated teacher into the founder of his own school has been amazing.
