Visiting the Mandarin Museum for Crown Craftsmen: A Philosophy exhibit was a deeply meaningful and exciting experience for my family. The exhibit takes a thoughtful look back at Jacksonville’s mid-to-late 20th-century studio art and craft movement, and walking through it really brings that creative history back to life. You can feel the care, dedication, and craft in every piece on display. On a deeply personal note, seeing this exhibit honor the memory of my mother, Claudette O'Brien—who served as the first director of the Crown Craftsman Gallery—was incredibly touching. Keeping her memory—along with the art, history, and time she shared with her friends—alive through this showing is truly special. It preserves the collective legacy of all these amazing artists as an enduring contribution to our local culture. A huge thank you to Museum Director Brittany Cohill for bringing this vision together. Rallying so many different elements of the community behind this tribute was no small task, but it truly paid off. It was a warm celebration of our local artistic roots, and I’m so glad my family and I had the chance to experience it together alongside so many of the surviving artists from that era and their supporters.

Great to visit
Excellent local history museum. The staff is knowledgeable and the exhibits offer a great glimpse into Jacksonville's past. A bit small, but very charming.
Love this place! The volunteers are so welcoming and the collection of old photos and items is impressive. A perfect spot for a quiet afternoon learning about our community.
Good walking trails with shady canopies & pretty water views. Restrooms are stocked. Plenty of trash receptacles. Dog bags are always available. Museum offers painting classes and events on the weekends. Morning strolls are a delight.

So happy we stopped by! This little museum offers a well organized, well presented overview of the area’s history. The docent who gave my family a spontaneous tour was incredibly knowledgeable and provided fascinating details and side stories for every step through the exhibits. If not for a thunderstorm, we would have stayed longer to walk the grounds and explore the park. We’ll definitely be back!!

The paths of nature were gorgeous! I loved being under all the trees. They maintained it very well. Negatives are: The political jargon (on walls), they are left-leaning... You'll figure it out, especially after touring inside more than one building.

Boring. It's historical but not that interesting. The outdoor park area is interesting for a walk but it's not that big.
