I liked the facility but I’ve gone there twice and met 3 rude senior staff (we got lucky that they weren’t the ones directly showing us the cats). They guilted us for trying to take our time to find the cat that was the right fit and just seemed to want to clear the shelter. They were confrontational with their comments. I am not saying this to hurt adoption rates, I write this in hope of some improvement In manners from the staff on the cat floor. Staff on the other floors seem really nice. I can’t believe how they made us feel through the adoption process and won’t be returning. Other shelter staff don’t act like we’re a waste of time and make us feel bad for looking for our next family member.

Hi Fahmida, thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re glad you’ve had positive experiences with staff in other areas of the shelter, and we’re sorry your experiences on the cat floor left you feeling unwelcome. We understand that finding the right cat can take time, and we want every adopter to feel comfortable making that important decision. At the same time, you have visited our cat floor numerous times over the past year to meet cats without an adoption moving forward. These visits require significant staff time, and we also need to be mindful of the other adopters and cats we’re assisting. Our goal is never to rush anyone, but when the right match is found, we do hope adopters are prepared to move forward. We’re sorry the interaction left you feeling judged, and we appreciate your feedback which will help us to improve.

We just adopted a wonderful two year old cat. We have adopted two dogs and two cats in the past. The Humane Society takes great care of the animals in their care. They were extremely helpful throughout the whole process of adopting our new family member.

Thanks for adopting, Susanna, and thanks for your review!

Temporarily closed today (June 19, 2026) for Juneteenth holiday. This notice claims they are open, but on their website, it states they are closed today. I suggest calling on Saturday June 20th before you make a trip just to be sure.

Hi Lisa- we are so sorry for the confusion. We will be open tomorrow, and look forward to seeing you soon!

We adopted a puppy yesterday and Adrianne was extremely helpful! We love adopting from human society and SPCA generally, and this was our first time here. We were surprised we needed to fill out an application first once we found a dog we were interested in but that just goes to show how careful and attentive they are to who qualifies to adopt and give their future pet a furever home. We brought our resident dog (also a rescue) and the staff were so thoughtful in how to get the whole family introduced. We really can't thank them enough for the detail they put into the introduction since our resident dog is a wild card with other dogs. While we're personally bummed as experienced dog owners that we still have to take puppy training classes, we do appreciate that they really thought this put for careful adoptions to make the families last. We would highly recommend this adoption center!

Easy, simple, and accommodating for my disability. Went on a Saturday afternoon to adopt a guinea pig and Katja was so kind and I could tell she cares about animal care. I was lucky enough to find a the bullet Prior to signing anything and paying the $15 adoption fee, I was allotted some lap time before adopting. And now, I have Cappuccino [Cap because he's the captain, not me], popcorning. I'm very happy that someone was able to allow me to use the staff elevator because the facility is huge.

Thank you so much for adopting, Ilah, and thank you for your review. I'm sorry our main public elevator is out of service, but glad you were able to use our staff and volunteer elevator.

I called today about a dog that’s living in a homeless camp. I’ve seen the dog over the last week… exposed rib cage, rear legs appear to not work and get dragged. Panting in the sun. I was told by the operator that they are aware of the dog and have evaluated it and came to the conclusion that the dog is healthy and was returned to the owner. Incredibly disappointing to see. I wish I could post a picture of it to show how severe the situation is.

Hi Trace, thank you for taking the time to reach out to us and for your concern about this dog. We understand how upsetting it can be to see an animal that appears to be struggling. This dog was evaluated by a veterinarian. Based on that assessment, he was determined to be in good condition for his age and doing well despite his appearance. We are monitoring the situation. We appreciate community members who look out for animals and report concerns. If you ever see an animal you believe may be in distress, please don’t hesitate to contact us again so we can investigate.

Amazing care & compassion. I have a cat who will turn 20 in April, surrendered at 17. Had neck mass. PHS biopsied & removed. Benign. Very loving kitty. Grateful. So far William (name was Lucky when surrendered) has had almost 3 more years with me. He is black which makes it harder to adopt. Gets along well with my other 2 cats.

Response from the owner · 8 months ago

Thank you for your review, Sharron, and thanks for adopting a senior cat!
