⭐☆☆☆☆ Update: I would like to clarify that, following our original experience, San Francisco Pet Hospital subsequently prepared Burbuja’s health certificate for a separate, later trip. This time, the process went smoothly, the certificate was completed correctly, and we were able to travel as planned. Based on this more recent positive experience, we intend to continue using their services for our future travels. However, this positive outcome relates to a different trip and does not change what happened with our original trip, which had to be canceled due to the mistake described above : I am extremely disappointed with my experience at San Francisco Pet Hospital. My family and I trusted this clinic to handle the international health certificate process for our service dog, Burbuja. We provided every document they requested and relied entirely on their professional guidance, believing they had the expertise to ensure everything was completed correctly. What makes this experience even more frustrating is that this was not our first time using this clinic for international travel. They had successfully prepared Burbuja's health certificates for previous trips to other countries, which is exactly why we returned to them. We trusted their experience. I honestly don't know if the staff has changed or if the person who previously handled international travel documentation is no longer there, but this experience was completely different. After following all of their instructions and paying for the required services, we were informed—only after the paperwork had already been processed—that we could not travel as planned because of a requirement that should have been identified and explained before the process even began. Their mistake completely ruined our vacation. We had already requested time off from work, planned everything months in advance, and made non-refundable reservations. As a direct result of their error, we had to cancel our trip, pay airline change fees, lose money on prepaid hotel reservations and tours, and completely rearrange our travel plans. The financial losses have been significant, but honestly, the worst part was losing our long-planned vacation and the valuable time off that had already been approved and cannot be replaced. The health certificate process is far from inexpensive. In addition to the cost of the health certificate itself, the clinic charges separately for multiple services and requirements throughout the process. We paid these fees because we trusted that we were receiving expert guidance and that everything was being handled correctly. Instead, we were left with an unusable certificate, substantial financial losses, and no meaningful resolution. The clinic acknowledged that they had made a mistake. However, despite admitting the error, they refused to provide a refund for the failed health certificate process. They also refused to prepare a replacement health certificate at no cost, even though the need for a new certificate exists solely because of their mistake. When clients seek assistance with international pet travel, they are placing their trust in the clinic's knowledge and expertise. That trust was completely broken in our case. What is most disappointing is not only that this mistake happened, but that the clinic failed to take full responsibility for the consequences of its own error. Unfortunately, I can no longer recommend San Francisco Pet Hospital for international pet travel documentation.

I’m writing this review from Italy. I just wanted to thank Joanna and Dr. Leyba for making a wonderful and easy process to get the international health certificate for the EU. Joanna was super detailed and thorough in filling out the health certificate. She even alllayed some of my fears from former Google reviews concerning health certificates for travel. When I flew into Paris’s airport, Charles de Gaulle on September 30th, customs didn’t even ask to look at the paperwork when I offered it to them. They just looked at my Yorkie mix dog and remarked at how cute he was. I’ve also been taking my dog Moja to SF Pet Hospital for the last two years. They do a good job of taking care of my little one. We love Star, the lovely receptionist. Thanks so much!

Hi Jasmin! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. International travel with pets is always stressful on all parties involved. I will be sure to share your kind words with our team.

The vet couldn't even tell if the cat was a boy or a girl. They charge more for pet services than our of pocket no insurance prices for humans. Their hours are good, service is prompt, that's about the only positive. If I knew how bad it was I would have waited until Monday and went somewhere else. He also suggested $12000 of diagnostic tests. Which was basically an MRI. It makes me sick honestly.

Hi Vivek, thank you for sharing your experience. Do you mind contacting me directly at [email protected]? I had trouble locating your appointment on our schedule in order to identify what went wrong. We don't offer diagnostics that would cost that much so I definitely want to understand what you experienced. Thank you.

I am extremely disappointed with San Francisco Pet Hospital’s handling of the international health certificate for our dog. We provided every document requested and followed all of the clinic’s instructions, trusting their experience with international pet travel. Only after the paperwork had been completed and paid for were we told that a requirement had been missed, making the certificate unusable and preventing us from traveling as planned. Because of this error, we had to cancel our trip, lose approved vacation time, pay airline change fees, and lose money on prepaid hotels, tours, and other reservations. The financial loss was significant, but losing a long-planned vacation was even worse. The clinic acknowledged that it had made a mistake, yet refused to refund the failed certificate process or prepare a replacement certificate at no cost. We paid substantial fees because we trusted their professional guidance, but received an unusable document and no meaningful resolution. Unfortunately, I can no longer recommend San Francisco Pet Hospital for international pet travel documentation. UPD: the clinic addressed the issue eventually, provideding the cerificate for our next trip free of charge. However, we still lost the money on the first trip since we weren't able to travel.

Wonderful professionals who genuinely care about both the animals and their owners’ concerns. We’ve seen Dr. Bennett, Dr. Hua, and Dr. Villard for our two kitties and have been extremely happy with all of them. From the first visit, we felt we could trust their recommendations and that our concerns were taken seriously. The entire staff, from the front desk to the technicians, is kind, thorough, and attentive, you can truly tell they love animals. Highly recommend!

Extremely disappointed and frustrated with this clinic. During the appointment, the vet said she didn’t think a cough suppressant was necessary. After the swab test, I did request it just to be safe and she said she’d add it to the order — but when the vet tech brought out the meds, only two were there (the doxycycline and the nausea medication). The cough suppressant I specifically asked for was just left out. As for the test results. I was told 3-4 days. My dog was seen Thursday, results were back Friday — and nobody bothered to call or email me. I checked my spam email as well and I didn’t receive anything. I had to call in on Saturday just to find out his results were already received by the lab, sitting in their system for a full day with zero communication on their end. When I called back because his cough had gotten worse, they said they could get the cough suppressant ready for pickup. But when I called to confirm the price and whether it was already covered by what I’d already paid Thursday, I got Glenn on the phone, who was flat-out rude. Short, irritated answers, no useful information, couldn’t tell me a price because “it’s not ready yet,” and when I asked if it’d be ready soon he said “it’s 2pm right now”… and then I asked if it would be done before 5:30pm his answer was a dismissive “yeah, that’s the goal” — like I was inconveniencing him by asking basic questions about medication I’d already requested two days earlier. I work with animals myself and I will not be recommending this clinic to any of my clients because of the carelessness they have shown.

I specifically recommend seeing Dr. Ricky Hua. I have two dogs, both with ongoing issues that need medication. With other vets we had seen, they brushed off the symptoms our dogs were seeing or were inflexible in their treatment recommendations, even when they clearly weren't working. With Dr. Hua I finally felt like someone was hearing the issues the dogs were experiencing and he clearly explained treatment options with pros and cons so I could make informed decisions. The support team is awesome as well. We've had generally great experiences with the vet techs here and the receptionists are also very nice and helpful whenever we contact them.
