Had a great time renting kayaks here! Michelle is super welcoming and organized, and launching right into Hempstead Harbor makes for a wonderful paddle. The best part is grabbing one of their ice cold drinks when you get back. Highly recommend Shore Thing Rentals for a fun day on the water!
Yes this is my mom’s shop. Yes, I’m also a customer. No, I’m (mostly) not biased when I say the 5 stars are well-deserved. I’ve kayaked and paddle boarded, as well as done larger groups with Shore Thing. Every time, we’ve had a blast! There is a lot of inventory and everyone is able to get a piece of equipment that’s right for them. It’s a great small business and an awesome outdoor activity.
Michelle really knows how to make the best experiences- she curated a phenomenal outing with my bachelorette party and it was divine! A beautiful sunset kayak and then a lovely wind down with some nice non alcoholic drinks on the patio over looking the marina. This is a whole experience and a half. I’ll happily come here from the south shore of Long Island anytime!

Absolutely amazing experience from start to finish! Michele was incredible — genuinely one of the nicest, most helpful people you could ask for. She made the entire kayak rental process effortless, was extremely accommodating, and went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. The kayaks were great, everything was smooth and easy, and the customer service really set this place apart. Michele made us feel completely taken care of and turned an already fun day on the water into an even better experience. If you’re looking to rent a kayak, seriously, there’s no need to look anywhere else. This is the place to go. We’ll absolutely be coming back. Highly recommend!
Aww thanks, Christian, so glad y’all got out for a sunset kayaking adventure! The north shore beachfront is scenic and there are great places for a stopover. My favorite is that you never know what you might see from your kayak or paddleboard.
My partner and I had an awesome experience here! Parking was free and easy. The weather was beautiful and calm, and Michelle was super kind and professional. She helped us take a photo, gave us an overview of where to go, and set up the kayaks to push away from the dock. We would absolutely return!

I was so thankful for the abundance of kayaks that my whole group of 12 of us were able to go out for a family hangout. This is the best kayak place on the north shore of Long Island.
