This review is to bring attention to customers like us of some problems that we experienced with Smoke Stacks. We called Smoke Stacks for an estimate on our chimney that was leaking into our garage. We specifically stated that we had a leak and wanted that problem addressed. Eric, the owner came out to do the estimate and told us that he would need to do further investigation as to where the leak was coming from and that there would be a charge to inspect. We concurred that further inspection was reasonable and needed. The objective was clear … to locate, identify and fix the leak. I had recently had our chimney cleaned and inspected by another company for $250.00 so did not ask what the charge would be. Eric told us that the charge would be included in the cost of the work if we decided to have his company do the work. After the inspection, we were told that the inspection cost was $850 and that the work would be $2995.00. Needless to say, we decided to have Smoke Stacks do the work to defray the cost of a $850.00 inspection. Business tactic?? A new chimney cover was installed and we paid Smoke Stacks. Not long after, we saw that we were still having the same leaking! We contacted Smoke Stacks and they assured us that they would address the problem, but were not able to do that until the following spring. When the Smoke Stacks technician came in the spring, he was unable to identify the problem. He stated that he understood our frustration and would need to direct us to Eric. When we told Eric that we had specifically hired his company to fix the leak, not just install a chimney cover, he told us that we had a new leak. This was not true because the water was coming in at the exact same place as before. We were then quoted an additional $8000.00 to repair the leak. We were shocked! Understandably, we did not want to have his company do any more work for us. We had hired Smoke Stacks to perform a “Level 3” inspection to find and fix the leak. If there was a bigger problem, they are the professionals and it was their job to find the problem and address it way before the job was done. We had confidence in Smoke Stacks, but trust was broken. Most discouraging is that we thought that we had chosen a good, honest, reputable company, but Smoke Stacks has not taken responsibility. Instead they have diverted and deflected blame. We are extremely unhappy and disappointed with Smoke Stacks.

Our initial evaluation identified a needed repair, which was quoted and completed. When the water intrusion continued, further investigation identified additional concerns involving the existing chimney siding, which had been completed prior to our involvement. We provided an estimate for the additional work we believed was necessary to address those concerns; however, we understand that you were not comfortable proceeding with further repairs at that time. We respect your decision and regret that we were unable to reach a resolution you felt comfortable with. We were updating the fireplace door on ours and it was giving us a lot of problems trying to make sure it was securely attached to the brick. Spoke with Eric and he made an appt within a week and Jeremy was the one who came out and worked on getting it secured. Looks great and it’s totally secure. Highly recommend them!
