Dr. Fernandez and Alyssa were awesome! I really appreciated how kind and positive they were with my 2 kitties. I also appreciated that they didn't try to talk me into services I didn't want. I will ask for them again.

Everyone there was so friendly and nice. The technician and veterinarian answered all my questions and were patient and friendly with my new puppy so his first visit was a very positive experience.

First of all, the staff was so friendly and welcoming! Zoe made a huge fuss over our golden puppy and made us feel so comfortable. Then we met Dr Perez and there was no doubt, this is where we want to bring our dog!

After experiencing various veterinary services throughout the valley over the years I finally stumbled on Sugarhouse Vet and I have stayed. The staff and vets are all incredible. Patient with my pup who becomes slightly overstimulated when we are there and so understanding of what he needs in those moments. Everyone is communicative and listens well, and helps me understand what next steps of care are/should be for my dog. They are upfront and honest (and quite fair) with their pricing and how they go about deciding or guiding you to next steps of proper care for your animal. I tell everyone about how great they are. Even people who don't have pets. (Yet).

While Sugarhouse vet has been a staple for me and my animals for 10+ years it has unfortunately started to feel like a money grab. I’ve had multiple instances where I need to refill my dogs medications and they will not look over recent testing/bloodwork etc. from other specialists and other vets. Instead of looking over current bloodwork, ekgs, and various testing they insist I have to bring him in so they can test him themselves. It’s unfortunate but I won’t be bringing my dogs back.

While we absolutely review and consider reports, bloodwork, and recommendations from specialists and other veterinary providers, there are situations where our veterinarians need to perform their own examination or evaluate updated diagnostics before prescribing or refilling medications. Our primary responsibility is to ensure that any medication we prescribe remains safe and appropriate for the patient’s current condition. Prescribing medication without first ruling out potential concerns could inadvertently put a pet's health at risk. For that reason, our doctors may recommend an examination or additional testing even when recent records from another provider are available. We understand that this process can sometimes feel inconvenient, and we regret that it has impacted your perception of our practice. Our intent has never been to create unnecessary expenses, but rather to provide the safest and most responsible medical care possible. New review: I've been taking my cats to Sugarhouse Vet Hospital for 26 years. I am a loyal customer and my cats have always had the best care; even through some difficult surgeries and illnesses performed by many of the different vets there. I have really grown to trust this practice over the years. Oji has been seeing Dr. Perez for a long time now and he loves her. She is so gentle with him and doesn't talk loud in the exam room. Oji gets very scared with loud noises in the clinic. He is hyper aware of every sound and startles easily, I've noticed. So, this is a big deal to me that she is quiet and gentle. Also, Dr. Perez is sensitive to the fact he gets terrible motion sickness in the car on the way over and is helping me manage Oji's anxiety and nausea with medications when he needs to travel. She keeps me well informed about how I can best keep him healthy. For example, a year ago, she went over a detailed weight loss plan with me and really took time to explain the plan with me. Oji had success between wellness visits losing 1 lb. We will be working on helping him lose 1 more. This is extremely important to me because I know he could live longer if he stays trim and fit. I feel Dr. Perez can answer all of my concerns and questions. It's awesome. She is a gem. I must send a shout out to her vet tech Alyssa, too. She has a great personality and bedside manner like Dr. Perez. She was very thorough explaining instructions to me and even answering some of my questions. She made sure when Oji went back to get blood tests that there weren't any dogs back there. I am super impressed! I even noticed the cute little design she wrote with Oji's name and hearts and paw print on the medication bag. Thanks, ladies! I tell everyone I can that you are the best! - Angela P. and Oji <3 Update to add: Dr. Amanda Perez is so amazing. I love how she treats my older ‘fraidy cat Oji gently and she always takes her time and never seems rushed when explaining things and giving advice to us. She is very thorough and sweet to Oji when performing his wellness exams. I really appreciate her compassionate and caring bedside manner as well as communication. That just goes to show what kind of person she is- cannot be learned at vet school. Kindness is just who she is. I know Oji is in great hands with Dr. Perez. He has an upcoming dental surgery with her again and I know she’ll make sure he’s in tip top shape for that. Thank you so much, Dr. Perez, for taking good care of Oji. (Shout out to Carol, too, for her amazing tech care. She made sure to go over the doctor’s instructions with us one more time before we paid and went home). I always recommend SHVH and Dr. Perez and her team to people. I’ve always had a positive experience choosing vet care here for over 25 years. Our tech was really good with Oji this time around. She asked a lot of questions to understand what is happening with his health and she addressed my concerns. She handled him very gently when taking him inside to get examined. I was also very impressed with Dr. Perez. She did a thorough exam on Oji and called me to give me a report. She handled his issue with extra care and even called me the next day to check on him. She really gave me peace of mind that Oji is in good hands and they are doing their best to help him get well.
