It has help to prepare our child for the next grade level by improving their math and reading skills. We were so excited when they read a book on their own for the first time. Family members and their school teachers have seen the improvement and success they have accomplished with the help from sylvan.

My son has been there for almost a year and the staff is absolutely fantastic. The director is so welcoming and always made it a point to cheer on all her students. His growth was important for us and he did master levels all at his own pace which we love!

I brought my 3 children (10,9 & 8) in February. I had ClassWallet funds to use for 2 of them. The 3rd I had to pay out of pocket. They were there for 2 months. The first month I didn't see much progress but gave it more time. I had asked Joann if I could shadow the kids for one session to see how the process worked. She said she wasn't sure and would let me know. The second month I had a review of the children's progress with Joann. The first two children reviews went fine but when it came to the 3rd, things went terribly. In our first month review we discussed what steps were taken if progress was stalled. I brought this up to see what interventions were being put in place to help his progress. I asked if there were any concerns we should discuss to see if its something we could address. She said a teacher mentioned he had used the bathroom and was in there longer than 5 minutes. I asked if that was an issue. She said yes and I said that's pretty standard for a child his age. She then said she would set a timer on her phone for 5 minutes so I could see just how long 5 minutes is. She became increasingly unprofessional and upset the longer we discussed options to help him. She seemed offended by the questions and responded with "I dont know" to all of them. She had a print out of their evaluation for each child. On the first two, she went over them line by line. For the 3rd child she turned the paper towards me and said here you go, you can read. I was baffled. I asked her why she was being so defensive and unprofessional to which she responded I knew everything so she didn't need to bother going over it with me. I immediately pulled them from the program. Each time I did an evaluation the children were on tablets. I then reached out regarding the refund of unused hours. Ms. Helkey was very polite and patient and helped enormously. She referred the information to her supervisor Joan but things quickly became unresponsive. I have been emailing since March. It is now June and I still have not received a confirmation of the refund amount or when it will be issued.

Sylvan has been a wonderful experience for our family. When my daughter struggled with reading, the team there helped her make meaningful progress. After a year of support, her confidence grew, her grades improved significantly, and her reading skills strengthened tremendously. The staff is friendly, patient, and truly dedicated to helping students succeed. It’s a real gem on the South Side of San Antonio.

I’m grateful to the staff at this location. Ms. Linda, Mr. Walker, and the Director Mrs. JoAnn. My daughter has come a long way with her improvement outside of school utilizing Sylvan’s tutoring program. She enjoyed her time here and has shown more confidence to believe in herself.

We started Sylvan the summer before my 5-year-old entered kindergarten. The goal was to help prepare her for kindergarten. The program is uniquely designed for your child's needs. The staff and tutors make her feel welcomed and boost her confidence. We would highly recommend Sylvan to anyone who wants their child to get ahead academically.
