Extremely Disappointing Experience for Poodles
As a standard poodle owner who regularly maintains my dog’s coat, I am extremely disappointed with this grooming experience. Two weeks ago, I bathed, conditioned, blow-dried, and groomed him myself, which took two hours. I brush him regularly using the recommended metal combs, and the night before his appointment, I spent another hour and a half thoroughly brushing him to prevent matting. I knew going in he was matted under his belly from the farm we went to that weekend. Which is why I was pushing for this appointment as I could tell he was having a lot of dirt build up and needed a trim.
He had some small mats under his belly, which I had no issue with shaving. However, I could part his hair down to the skin across his back and outer legs. His coat was not severely matted throughout his body and I throughly made sure.
The groomer texted me saying Nando was matted and needed to be shaved. I responded that I wanted to see proof of the matting before proceeding and would come in. Instead, he called to tell me he had **already started shaving Nando before even bathing him**, claiming it would make the washing process easier. He did this after I explicitly asked him not to proceed without showing me the matting.
When I questioned his decision, he told me I wouldn’t understand because I’m not in a grooming environment. I find this dismissive, especially considering the time I invest in maintaining his coat and the professional tools I use. I understand that severe matting can require shaving, but I expected an explanation and my permission before such a drastic decision.
I left a printed photo and written instructions for the haircut I wanted. This is approximately the third or fourth time his haircut has been completely different from what I requested, including two previous botched haircuts. This is by far the worst. Despite my objections and the fact that he proceeded against my instructions, I was charged full price. Not to meantion he was cut almost raw and was bleeding on his paws when picked up.
We regularly bring both our dogs here, which makes the lack of communication, attention to detail, and customer service even more disappointing. **If you are looking for a groomer who understands poodle coat maintenance, follows instructions, and respects your wishes as an owner, I would think twice before bringing your dog here
