My dog ate a sock, so we called ahead and rushed over, arriving about two hours after he ate it. Inducing vomiting is only really effective within the first three hours, and that's why we called first and also explained our situation several times upon arrival. Instead, we waited another two hours before a vet saw us (and only after we reminded them we were still waiting), by which point the window had mostly closed. The vet spoke with us twice. The first time, she recommended imaging. She said if we wanted to “throw caution to the wind”, we could try induced vomiting. When the vet spoke with us the second time, she then discouraged imaging, saying they were too busy to act on the results anyway. At the 4½-hour mark, they pushed us toward inducing vomiting, which they admitted had only a chance of working and could include adverse side-effects, for $540. We were under the impression that the chance of successfully throwing up the sock at that point was 30%, so we declined. When we complained that we'd come specifically for this and never got seen in time, they still charged the $200 exam fee, and the vet got snippy about our decision. They also claimed to have done a full workup and exam, yet never even weighed my dog - the only "exam" performed was a brief look at his gums and listen to his heart. So ultimately we were charged $200 just to walk through their doors and wait for hours. We left without the care we came for, and if you go here (I wouldn’t recommend anyone to go here), call ahead and ask about wait times. An ER with waits this long should tell callers upfront so people with urgent cases can go elsewhere.

VEG Cary were absolutely fantastic with my sweet cat, Lola. We came in for a potential obstruction/foreign body and although the hours spent were long, the entire team that cared for us were attentive and kind and knowledgeable and did a wonderful job making sure we were comfortable and informed to the best of their ability. Everyone in the clinic is a superhero for all of the hard work they put into every animal they saw. I am very grateful that Lola’s presenting concern ended up being mild and she left with a clean bill of health, and if we need to see an emergency vet in the future, I would not hesitate to choose VEG again.
We’re so happy to hear Lola is doing well and that our team helped make a stressful visit more manageable. Thank you for recognizing the compassion and dedication of our team and for trusting VEG Cary with Lola’s care. We’re grateful for your kind words and hope she continues to stay happy and healthy!
The VEG staff is awesome. Every time I come in there, I feel supported and they want to do whatever they can to make my pet feel better including myself. I will tell anybody to go there. In addition, I love the fact that I can call them ahead of time to ask some quick questions and they check me in before I even get there.
We appreciate your feedback on the positive experiences you've had with our staff and services. Our commitment is to consistently deliver excellent care for our furry patients and their owners. Your recommendation is truly valued. Thank you for your kind words and ongoing support!
The care was excellent and prompt. But the amazing part was when the bird was flying all over the treatment room. Dr. Nilles just casually reached his hand up and gently caught the bird in mid flight. Perfectly. In the exact position he needed him to be in for the exam.
We’re glad you had such a positive experience with our team! Dr. Nilles will be happy to hear his quick reflexes and gentle handling made such an impression. Thank you for trusting VEG Cary with your feathered friend’s care!
I don’t even know where to begin when it comes to praising VEG ER in Cary. A few weeks ago, my 17-year-old pup, Floyd, suddenly went into respiratory arrest. We were turned away from two urgent care vets because we didn’t have an appointment. When I called VEG ER, they assured me they could help and would be waiting when we arrived—and they meant it. A veterinary technician was waiting outside with oxygen and a bed, ready to bring Floyd in and assess his condition. Unfortunately, given his heart condition and the sudden fluid in his lungs, there was nothing they could do to save him. Their veterinarian had such a gentle, thoughtful, and compassionate conversation with my husband and me. Throughout our time there, everyone reminded us how lucky Floyd was to have us, although we truly believe we were the lucky ones. They guided us through the process at our own pace and gave us as much time as we needed. They kept Floyd comfortable while we waited for the last few family members who wanted to be there to say goodbye, allowing us all to be together during those final moments. The veterinary technicians collected fur clippings, nose and paw prints, and molds of his paws—precious keepsakes that we will treasure forever. The aftercare process through Agape was just as thoughtful and smooth. They kept me updated on where Floyd was throughout the process and let me know when he was finally ready to come home. That continued care and communication meant so much during such a difficult time. If your pet ever needs emergency care, please do not hesitate to take them to VEG ER in Cary. You and your pet will be cared for by some of the kindest, most compassionate people imaginable. We cannot thank their team enough for helping our little boy, Floyd, cross the rainbow bridge peacefully and without pain. During one of the hardest moments of our lives, you gave us kindness, comfort, and the time to say goodbye. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts. ♥️
We’re so sorry for the loss of your sweet Floyd, and we’re honored our team could be there for your family during such a heartbreaking time. We’re grateful we could help keep him comfortable, give your family time to say goodbye, and provide some comfort through those final moments. Thank you for trusting VEG Cary with Floyd’s care.
While I did not know what to expect at my first vet er visit, I could not gave been more impressed. The total team tending to us were passionate and expedient in addressing Tilly’s needs. The staff really made me feel like they were part of Tilly’s family .
It means so much to hear that you and Tilly felt welcomed and cared for during your first emergency vet visit. We’re glad our team could provide the compassionate and efficient care she needed and make you feel like part of the VEG family. Thank you for trusting VEG Cary with Tilly’s care!
I brought my 10-week-old miniature dachshund, Bodie, in after he ingested an earring. I had called and been referred to multiple different vets, and unfortunately, I felt like my concerns weren’t really being heard. I was initially told to simply monitor him, but as a worried puppy mom, I knew I needed someone who would truly listen and take my concerns seriously. When I called VEG, they immediately listened to everything I had to say and were willing to do what they could, within reason, to help my little guy. From the moment we arrived, the entire staff was so kind, compassionate, and comforting during an incredibly stressful situation. They reassured me that they would do everything in their power to help Bodie, and that meant more to me than I can put into words. Dr. Johnson was absolutely amazing. She was so kind, patient, and comforting throughout the entire process. I truly cannot say enough good things about her or everyone else at VEG. When you’re scared and worried about your pet, having people who listen to you, take your concerns seriously, and genuinely care makes such a huge difference. If you’re looking for a place that will listen to you and truly hear your concerns, this is the place. While I certainly hope I don’t have to go back anytime soon 😂, if there is ever another emergency, VEG will absolutely be the first place I call. I wouldn’t hesitate to bring Bodie back. Thank you so much, VEG, for taking such good care of my little guy. I felt so helpless during such a stressful time, but knowing Bodie was surrounded by people who were willing to try everything they could—and more—gave me so much comfort. He is doing amazing, and I’m so incredibly grateful to everyone who helped him. ❤️ Thank you again for everything!
We’re so glad Bodie is doing amazing and that our team could be there for you both during such a stressful situation. It means so much to hear that you felt heard, supported, and cared for throughout his visit, and we’ll be sure to share your kind words with Dr. Johnson and the rest of the team. Thank you for trusting VEG Cary with your little guy!
I’m not sure if they’ve switched management/policies, or if we just got to see true colors this visit. The lack of sympathy really stood out. They wanted 1900+ dollars just to run imaging and tests on my dog.. respectfully that is insane. When we then began looking at other options (sorry we’re poor) they became stand-offish. So maybe you’ll get treated better if you make more money than me, idk. Edit: even their “cheaper” alternative was still $1,000
Thank you for sharing your experience. We’re sorry to hear that you left your visit feeling unsupported and that the cost of recommended diagnostics added to an already stressful situation. We understand that emergency veterinary care can be a significant financial burden, and our goal is always to communicate options clearly and treat every family with compassion and respect, regardless of their circumstances. We appreciate your feedback and will use it to help us improve. If you have any further concerns or thoughts, please don’t hesitate to reach out directly.
Super competent team that can handle anymore emergencies at any time day or night with the kind of empathy and care for the pets we all love

I came here with new babies and they took care of me so beautifully... The puppies were calm and the nurse and veterinarian are very knowledgeable.
We’re so happy to hear that you and your new puppies felt well cared for during your visit! It means a lot to know our team was able to provide knowledgeable, gentle care and help keep everyone comfortable. Thank you for trusting VEG Cary with your little ones!
