I’ll say this, staff was friendly. But I was extremely disappointed in being charged $32 so they could scan a stray kitten that was found on my doorstep. I was trying to do the right thing by checking for a microchip. That should have been free. Shame on you!

Thank you so much for your feedback. There are funded scanners around the city of Lafayette that are no charge to the public as well as animal control. We would be happy to send you the locations for your future use. Our care team is paid a living wage and receives no government funding- neither our chip scanner nor their time is free. We are so sorry we did not meet your expectation on this.

Asked if she discussed with Vet she said no does not have to. When back and forth 3 phone calls. She called me back and advised as though that was Vets recommendations. Here is the review you've told others about….. I wasn't going to write one for you, but now I think it's time. My cat began at your clinic with senior labs that were unremarkable. I thought you were going to be great, at first. I had empathy for you starting out and telling me about another person not being satisfied with you. In your notes, after his first procedure with you, you notated blood in his urine that was caused by the medical procedure you performed. Then before we knew it, he was diagnosed with stage II and III kidney disease after a few simple procedures of removing benign cysts and a teeth cleaning. On his last visit with you, you notated that he had a "mild" arthritis in his knees and gave him a shot of Solensia. Solensia has not been safety tested for cats with stage 3 and 4 kidney disease. It also has in the insert that it can cause renal insufficiency. It blocks nerve growth factor, which is basically a necessity for life and red blood cells. If there is not an excess in nerve growth factor, then Solensia blocks what is needed by the cat. My cat had an x ray done this past December and it showed NO arthritis. I don't think that just disappears, so when you gave him a shot of Solensia, you harmed him. He ended up with renal failure within months after this shot We began with you in 2020 with senior labs that were unremarkable and ended with you in December 2022, and then renal failure in the first half of 2023. In response to your first comment: I never mentioned loss. Another vet saved his life after his experience with you. Yes, the last time you saw my cat was on 12-13-2022. On 12-26-22, you noted that he had a "dx of arthritis (p was given Solensia) or the cyst was bothering him- " You gave him the shot of Solensia on 12-13-22. You didn't give a chance to see if the cyst was bothering him, but instead gave him a drug (solensia) without considering the risk. The last interaction was on May 15, 2023 where I cancelled his 6 month wellness check with you. In response to your second comment: The medical records are where I discovered that you gave him a shot of solensia. You never considered the videos I showed you about how another cat was coming to the door either and that there was a possibility that he was marking his territory by the door. The amount of “arthritis” you said he had was not affecting his ability to run, jump and play. He played way after that as well. He should have never been given a shot of solensia. Renal insufficiency is due to the blockage of nerve growth factor. After learning about what Solensia does to cats, Librela for dogs, and how blocking nerve growth factor was discontinued in human studies because of the damage done to cartilage, it makes me wonder why on earth vets don’t do their own research. I also clearly remember you telling me his levels got too low during the procedure where you chose to pull a couple of teeth when he went in for a teeth cleaning and removal of a benign cyst

Response from the owner · a year ago

We are deeply sorry to hear about your cat’s ongoing health challenges, especially with the progression of renal disease. To respect your and your cat’s confidentiality, we cannot discuss specific details of his medical history publicly. However, we have provided you with a complete copy of your cat's medical records, which include the records from the last time we had the privilege of seeing him in 2022. We truly hope you find peace and comfort in this difficult time.

I try not to give negative reviews, but it has been weighing heavily on my heart. I’m very disheartened about having brought my cat to Cat clinic. I thought as my cat was getting older, a specialty in cats would be great. My cat’s first visit was great. However, every time after, especially when they wouldn’t allow me to go in the back with my cat, it made my cat seem like a feral cat when he had previously laid belly up for the previous vet. He would growl, hiss and hit his kennel the minute we would walk up to the door. I was told it was because he was older and not feeling as good or that it may be because there were other cats. He was happy jumping and playing at home. He was not bothered by other animals at two other clinics afterwards. After they wanted to heavily sedate my cat with a sedative that remains in the kidneys, even though it was known that my cat had kidney problems, I decided to switch vets. I was also concerned about his stress level at Cat Clinic, in which he didn’t exhibit the level of stress and behaviors at two other clinics after leaving Cat Clinic. Another vet was able to give my cat an IV prior to hospitalization for kidney failure WITHOUT sedation. He was calm in their waiting room and exam room. One of the vets and a couple of nurses were able to pet my cat there. My cat’s new vet was also able to pet him and I was able to get my cat there much more easily than I ever did with Cat Clinic. It has nothing to do with time and you being a small clinic. It has more to do with my cat’s behavior and personality change when he went there. And YES, they want to overcharge! Jasmine had supposedly done a procedure but had to be repeated a couple of weeks later in which they charged me for again. My cat was regretfully one of your patients. After speaking with a breeder, you should have never given my cat sedation unless it was in surgery. And remembering how my cat’s kidney problems began after his levels dropped really low during a simple procedure you were supposed to be doing started the decline in his kidneys. He has two other vets for many years before you: one from our home town and the other retired. Neither one of them had to sedate my cat to work with him. It is well known in the vet world that those who are just starting have an insurmountable amount of student loans they need to pay off. So why not take advantage and create medical problems in the cats you see by sedating them each time? If you can’t handle a breed that is known to be calm and you create traumatic experiences for them, then you shouldn’t work with cats.

We are sorry to hear that your cat's kidney disease progressed over time and wish we could more personally give our condolences - please reach out to us at [email protected] we cannot fully and accurately evaluate the sitaution at hand without knowing if your cat is one of our patients. Kidney disease is one of the most common disease processes we deal with in our senior feline patients. It can remain subtle for years but can suddenly have acute events such as infarction and infection that cause it to worsen more quickly. We keep this in mind and use low doses of calming agents that do not build up anytime we deal with geriatric patients. In our older patients, a stressful event where blood pressure is elevated can often be more dangerous than giving a mild sedative in order to accurately diagnose and formulate a treatment plan. Elevated stress and heart rate can lead to acute cardiac complications and even vascular events such as strokes. Our goal is to ease anxiety and discomfort especially for procedures that require special positioning such as abdominal radiographs, ultrasound, and sample collection which can be tedious for many cats at a vet visit or grooming visit. Sometimes the medications we use at the dose specifically for elderly cats are reversed at the end of the visit. We know that cats with CKD have special needs so we tread carefully and conservatively. We also give fluid therapy as extra support if a senior patient needs comfort and relief that calming agents provide. I am sorry that your cat was so nervous during his visits and so sickly when the disease progressed- this truly breaks our heart. I am grateful that you found a veterinarian open for the time schedule that fit your needs- we are a small, busy practice but do our best to accommodate. We can't always do same day or even next day visits though we strive to and will continue to improve. Our team will always be here by phone, email, or text message to hear about a patient of ours that is not doing well. Truly only wishing the best- Team @ Cat Clinic of Lafayette

This was my first time ever bringing my cat Socks to the vet and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Everyone was so kind, patient, and genuinely caring which made socks feel very comfortable. I really appreciated how transparent they were about pricing they walked me through all my options and explained what was needed now vs what could wait. Pricing was fair and clearly explained which I’m super thankful for. I also love that this is a cat-only clinic. You can tell they truly understand cats and know how to handle them gently and calmly. Overall just a great experience from start to finish. I’m really glad I found them and will absolutely be bringing Socks back.
