They seem to have forgotten how to provide a service. A level of entitlement that's unusual in a service business. Maybe they won awards with dogs, I don't know... But clearly Abby should not be a person interacting with clients. They are rude, entitled and not helpful. Don't bring your dogs there.

I cannot say enough good things about Masterpiece Canine Spa. I have been bringing my dog here for over 5 years (starting at the H street location) and while we are moving out to the West Coast in a week, Masterpiece will be one of the places we miss most.
My dog, Jolene, is a highly anxious Great Pyrenees and Anatolian Shepherd mix. The set appointment times were great for her to limit interactions with other dogs and time in a kennel. Glauce and Danielle have been her groomers for years and I am so incredibly grateful for their efforts in taking care of her double coat, they are both outstanding. Masterpiece has been there for Jolene as she has aged and has always gone out of their way to ensure she's supported and loved on during her visits. Abby has always been accommodating with our limited availability and I've found communicating with Masterpiece to be seamless over the years whenever I've needed any schedule changes. I truly cannot recommend the Masterpiece Canine Spa team enough!

I’ve been bringing my dog here for over a year now and couldn’t recommend them more. Beyond just providing great grooming service in an environment that pets feel comfortable in, the Masterpiece team *truly* shows how much they care about animals. When I fostered a dog with severe matting and who had likely never been groomed before, the business owner covered the shop’s portion of the cost in support of local animal rescue, treated the dog with such care given her background, and gave me helpful notes on how to get her more comfortable with grooming that I could pass along to potential adopters.

I wanted to leave a review for Masterpiece Canine Spa. I have been taking my cat, Billie-Jean (BJ), here for almost five years and will continue to use their services. Having a cat groomed or shaved is not easy, and finding a place that specializes in feline grooming can be even harder!
Not only do they work with my busy schedule, but they also take the absolute best care of BJ. I always feel completely comfortable dropping her off, and even better when I pick her up. The staff is professional, caring, and truly understands how to make both pets and their owners feel at ease.
A special shoutout to BJ’s bestie, Jerrod! His calm demeanor is contagious, and he makes BJ feel so safe and comfortable during her grooming appointments. It is clear how much he cares about the animals he works with, and that peace of mind means everything to me.
We love it here and highly recommend Masterpiece Canine Spa!

Hi Bruna, I’m honestly not sure how we could have provided you with better service.our experience with you began nearly two years ago when you reached out to inquire about services for your then ten month old puppy and indicated that you felt we were too expensive.
In early May of this year you reached out again indicating that you would like to book an immediate appointment. I had a detailed conversation with you about your Cavalier and it was clear that your pup had some matting but you did not want us to take him short but would prefer that he be dematted. At that point we scheduled a complimentary coat check - a free service provided to you prior to booking to ensure that we would be able to provide you a service that you would be happy with. Dematting a dog is painful so it is not something we do unless a dog has matting that will not be painful to work out.
Your first complimentary coat check was scheduled for May 14. Five minutes before your scheduled consultation you texted me that the date no longer worked for you and asked to come in on a day that we are closed. I indicated that we would not have availability for another consultation for two weeks and it sounded like your pup would need service sooner than that date. You agreed and we ceased communication.
Two weeks later you reached out again to rebook a consultation. I responded to you immediately and booked you in for another complimentary consultation within the week.
As expected, your pup was matted far beyond humane dematting. My manager and I spent fifteen minutes explaining to you why your pup needed a short haircut to start fresh as his coat has not been properly cared for. You continued to insist that your pet could be dematted and we invited you to try a different groomer who might be willing to provide you with that service. At that point you asked to book the haircut. I provided you with two possible dates, neither of which worked for you. At that point you asked me to hold one of the dates so that you could move around work commitments. We agreed that you would reach out later in the afternoon if you could make the appointment work for you and at that time you would provide the deposit to hold the appointment.
At 11 pm last night, I received a text from you indicating that the appointment would work. I advised you that we were well past business hours and that the appointment had been booked by another client when I did not hear from you. Given our experience to this point between your busy work schedule and our very booked calendar, I made the decision that we did not seem to be a good fit for each other so that your pet could be taken care of quickly since it had been almost a month since you first reached out and you agreed.
We provided you with two complimentary consultations, immediate responses (including calls and text responses on the days we are closed) and detailed information that would help your pet. I’m honestly at a loss as to what else we could have done to provide you with a better customer experience before even booking your pet for a service. We hope you and your sweet pup find a groomer who is a better fit for your needs.

I really liked Brittany the first time I came and she did a great job but I’m super disappointed this second time. The main reason is it looks like she cut my baby pretty badly and never said anything to me. The cut is several layers of skin deep and I just found it on my dog’s belly, days later. I get mistakes happen but you’ve got to tell an owner when you’ve left an open wound on their pet. My dog is only 7 lbs and without care, she could’ve gotten a serious infection.
In addition, the owner came in hot with me when I came to pick up my dog, telling me I said something I didn’t and then going back through our texts (and her review confirmed I never said it) while I was waiting for Brittany to fix my dog’s face. I simply said it must have been a miscommunication, but it seemed like she was more interested in being “right.” Not fun, especially since I was on a work call while trying to deal with her bc they have a strict no late pick up rule.
I prefer Colby’s Dogcare and Spa on K Street. They consistently do a great job with my poodle mix and better customer service.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. Unfortunately your pet was in such bad condition upon check-in for her appointment that we required that you sign a matted pet form which very clearly warns that skin irritation is a possibility post groom due to the severely matted condition of her coat. The picture example you shared depicts not a cut but actually skin irritation from the tight matting that was allowed to be scratched at in the days post groom, causing the irritation to worsen which is why it wasn’t noticed until days after her groom. Unfortunately this is very common after a severely matted pet has to be shaved down and why we required you to sign a release that explains the risk of skin irritation in order to perform this service.
We appreciate you leaving this review as it is a way for us to improve. If you left feeling attacked or misunderstood, that’s 100% on me as the business owner. My concern over our text exchange was simply trying to figure out where we went wrong when our requirement of a schedule of eight weeks or less is clearly stated whether that schedule is kept completely with us or shared with another grooming establishment if a pet parent travels. I clearly missed the mark on how that was communicated with you and I absolutely apologize. In future, we will make sure to ask for the date a pet has been groomed if it’s been longer than eight weeks since we’ve seen them prior to rebooking as opposed to simply assuming that our text language was clear. Our goal is always the health, safety and well being of the pups in our care and every review is an opportunity for us to provide better and clearer communication. We wish you and your very sweet pup the best.

A true five star experience. I was so nervous to bring my rescue for his first groom and Abby immediately put me at ease. Every single step of the process was transparent, from the complimentary consultation onward. Theo was immediately comfortable with Lauren, who did a phenomenal job finding the Scottie under 10 months worth of fur! Communication throughout was unparalleled. For me, not having to leave my dog at a groomer for six plus hours, wondering how they’re doing and struggling to get in touch to figure out when they might be done, is of the utmost importance. Masterpiece is the only groomer in the area that assuages these concerns. It’s clear that Abby, Lauren, and the rest of the team take a lot of pride in what they do and truly have the best interest of the dogs in mind. Thank you all for making Theo’s first groom such a positive one!
To address a concern in other reviews—I believe, sincerely, the pricing at Masterpiece is extremely reasonable for the services provided. I have yet to find another groomer in the DMV that provides a dedicated appointment time to one dog, texts questions and concerns immediately, and can also expertly craft a breed standard cut. You get what you pay for, and if you want personalized attention and professional quality, this is the price!

They handled my puppy with care and was incredibly patient and gentle. You can tell they actually care about the dog's emotional state, not just the haircut.
My pet came out looking fantastic and, more importantly, wasn't shaking or terrified. It is definitely on the pricier side, but for the peace of mind and the one-on-one attention is so important and I won't go anywhere else. Great job !!!
