Ash Mehta3 reviewsiTotal number of Google reviews Ash has written across all businesses on Google Maps, not just this one.
Lack of internal communications hampers Meathead Movers.
Meathead has several functional components. The estimater comes out first. We told him we wanted to move everything, except things we told him about and marked (things in our rental that weren't ours). We wanted to move a lot of plants – their literature says they don't move them – but apparently if you have a second truck for them, they will. His estimate that our inside of house stuff would fit into a truck was wrong (took a truck and a half and obviously cost more).
Packing is scheduled for day 1, an empty day (in case they overflow), a day to fill trucks and drive off. And an arrival and unpack day. We are supposed to be there to let them in and sign at the end of each day that things are good so far. We were a long haul move (6 hours away) and had no intention of sleeping in a hotel locally for 2 days. But we were planning to manage with FaceTime calls to inspect.
Now come the packers. They haven't been told to pack everything. They haven't been told what our parking arrangements for them are, but since we hadn't left yet, it started out OK. We left as soon as they got settled and we pointed out we wanted everything moved that wasn't tagged No Move and showed them the tags. They don't, in fact, plan to pack everything. Things they figure are too big are left for the movers to cover in some way. The end of day Facetime ran out of power on their end, so we couldn't inspect everything. And packers don't communicate with the movers.
In theory somebody has to be on-site to open the place for each crew. And while management had a phone call with us during packing day allowing us to repeat messaging to them about parking plans for the movers, they didn't pass that along. Nor the “move everything” message. So packers started by ignoring some large stuff in a bathroom and all our outdoor furniture and tools. The movers packed the plants first in the second truck. And with Facetime working we pointed out they were incorrectly ignoring garden furniture and tools. They then ran out of room in the other truck so packed the excess in the plant truck. THEN they understood our pile of redwood lumber next to the plants was also to go, but there wasn't any room left. Expensive wood left behind. They COULD have put the lumber as a floor under the plants, but by now it was too late. In their Facetime walkthru we found a closet with a bunch of stuff never packed, and kitchen undercounter shelves never packed. I would have thought they could see that for themselves, but we had to point it out. And movers have no boxes with them (that's packers' job). None the less, they heroically did get that stuff into the trucks.
Movers then drove the trucks to our new location and moved stuff into the house. They ignored our comments on how to place a large wall shelving unit, scraping the polished wood floor a bit when it didn't clear easily with the ceiling. When we browsed through a container outside the truck where they put packing stuff, they said none of our stuff was there. Turns out they were wrong. At the end they said they were done, then found an item in their truck afterwards.
After we unpacked and cleared every box, we found various things missing for no obvious reasons: a bathroom box of bandaids and other medical supplies, a white chinese paper umbrella, the top of my waterpik water reservoir (which one would have imagined they would pack together) and some other stuff including a bit of our garden furniture and tools. Nothing worth claiming on insurance but irritating.
The entire process made what should have been a straight-forward move of 2 people's belongings into a 5 day marathon which really stressed us out. We would never use them again.
Great move with Meathead movers in SLO. Nolan and Zach were prompt and took excellent care of our things. They went above and beyond!! I highly recommend them.

UPDATE 10/22/2026: NEARLY $7,000 FOR AN UNFINISHED MOVE. OVER 100 PAGES OF DOCUMENTATION. STILL NO RESOLUTION.
If you’re considering hiring Meathead Movers, I strongly encourage you to read this before signing anything.
I hired this company because I had used them previously and trusted them. That trust turned out to be an extraordinarily expensive mistake.
THE PRICE:
My written estimate was $1,977.94–$2,408.74.
My final bill? $6,818.64.
Nearly THREE TIMES the highest estimate.
I agreed to what was described as approximately two additional hours or another trip. I do not recall authorizing anything remotely approaching this final amount.
Even more concerning, I discovered I was billed for 12 hours despite company paperwork stating movers can work a maximum of 10 hours per day.
I have requested an explanation of this discrepancy and the authorization for the additional charges.
WHAT DID NEARLY $7,000 ACTUALLY BUY ME?
An unfinished move.
A substantial amount of my belongings was left behind at my former residence. My family and I had to transport approximately SIX additional loads ourselves.
My autistic son was crying on the floor late that night because his bed hadn’t been assembled. My younger son was also upset while I scrambled to finish a move I had already paid professionals thousands of dollars to complete.
Furniture was left disorganized, damaged, or improperly assembled.
My dining table became unstable because of damage at a leg attachment point. A door at my former residence, which the movers manipulated while removing furniture, no longer closes properly. My son’s bed was also improperly assembled.
I paid for professional moving services. Instead, my family became the unpaid moving crew.
THE AFTERMATH IS ALMOST AS DISAPPOINTING AS THE MOVE ITSELF.
I reported problems IN WRITING on September 12, the very day of the move.
The company subsequently offered a $2,500 refund and a spa day in exchange for a complete settlement, including property damage.
A spa day.
After an almost $7,000 move that my family had to finish.
I declined.
Since then, I have compiled and submitted a 21-page report containing 19 numbered photographic exhibits, followed by an additional 84-page evidence package containing 83 photographs.
That’s 105 pages of organized documentation detailing what happened.
Yet the company’s response to my Better Business Bureau complaint continues to focus on my not completing its proprietary claims form.
Here’s what makes that particularly frustrating:
THEIR OWN WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS explicitly tell customers they can submit photographic evidence by replying to their email with attachments.
That’s exactly what I did.
I have explained that their form is difficult to complete from my phone, especially because my computer still hasn’t been set up following this move. I’ve requested an accessible alternative.
Not completing their preferred form does not mean I haven’t provided evidence.
A FORM IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR ACCOUNTABILITY.
Furthermore, this complaint is not limited to damaged furniture. It concerns disputed billing, incomplete services, additional moving expenses, damaged property, and the substantial work my family was forced to perform.
Those issues deserve actual answers, not repeated references to paperwork.
Meathead Movers publicly responded to my review stating that its Operations team was working with me toward a resolution.
I would welcome that resolution.
But more than five weeks after the move, I am still requesting meaningful answers about the charges and services I received.
Communication alone is not resolution. An apology is not accountability. And a settlement offer does not erase what happened.
I am continuing to pursue a fair resolution and will update this review if the company meaningfully addresses these concerns.
Until then, I cannot recommend Meathead Movers.
If you hire this company, document everything, carefully review every charge, and make sure you understand exactly what you’re agreeing to before the work begins.
