When I first booked with Plankit Photography, I hoped to book with Treva. She lives on the island and, as a result, has a strong understanding of the area. She also has the most coastal experience, which can be beneficial given the sunset, water reflection, and seaside weather patterns. Instead, we were assigned to work with her daughter, Sabrina, who was coming in from the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
Despite the challenges we faced with the weather, Sabrina was a pleasure to work with. Her warm and easy-going nature made our family feel at ease, and her patience was commendable. She handled the adverse weather conditions gracefully, even though the wind was particularly challenging on the day of our shoot.
I understand that Sabrina has worked as a photographer for five years. While I am sure she does a great job, unfortunately, we were not put in a position to utilize her full talent. City and/or hill country photography differs significantly from beach photography. There is a unique skill to understanding the elements and dealing with, in this case, extreme wind. There is also a creative knack for understanding your surroundings, allowing the presence of dunes, waves, and greenery to work with the photo rather than against it.
I was highly disappointed with Sabrina's lack of direction, both in the physical location of photos and the actual positioning of bodies. With the present wind, we should have been navigated behind a dune to block the airflow and allow our hair and clothes to sit still to capture the moment. That idea was never presented to us, even after we initiated the conversation.
I fully understand that no one can control the weather. If one could, this entire review would be different. However, while an overcast day wasn't ideal, a photographer is responsible for ensuring the product they produce is as advertised. Yes, grey skies fading into grey water is challenging, pivoting to another angle to focus on the family, house, or high dunes with foliage should have been an easy change. Someone highly familiar with beach photography would know this.
Regretfully, our family photos are highly underwhelming. I booked with Plankit because of the bright, crisp beach photos on their website. Instead, we received dark, moody images, likely due to the preset filters they use. In almost every photo, we have black eyes, or the color of our clothes is altered. iPhone photos taken during the shoot are sharper, less pixelated, and accurately reflect the colors of our eyes and clothes. The stark difference makes me question the overall level of service Plankeit provided us.
I contacted Treva and Sabrina with my concerns. Sabrina revisited the photos for a second edit, which I appreciate. Unfortunately, the second set didn't turn out much better. A colleague of mine took it upon herself to use Adobe Lightroom to reverse most of the image filtering and revive the color in one of our photographs. So it can be done. I am bewildered as to why Plankit would not.

I find this review/message very disheartening and a little over the top.
Plan-it ink Photography is made up of a mother/daughter team of 3 photographers, it is clearly stated on my website as are photos of each of us and samples of our work. Photography is our family business and my girls were raised around it and have extensive experience in shooting beach photos! (I'm not sure where you got all of your information or false assumptions but it is offensive that you felt you needed to write such a review that attacks the credibility of our livelihood. I am sorry you are not satisfied with your photos but Sabrina did go above and beyond to please you. You never voiced to her this type of disappointment, so this review comes as a shock! Yes, it is true, WE CAN NOT CONTROL THE WEATHER! We also have a distinct editing style and brand which we will not compromise, it is who we are. It's not typical for me to respond in a negative way but we take pride in our family business and respect all whom we work with and do our very best to give our clients a wonderful experience, I felt we deserve the same respect.
