An Outstanding Experience from Start to Finish – Highly Recommend!
We couldn't be happier with our backyard transformation and our experience working with Alex, Mr. Smitty, and the entire team! From start to finish, the level of professionalism, attention to detail, communication, and quality of work exceeded our expectations. I truly couldn't imagine a better company to have trusted with such a significant project.
Our project included the pool patio, outdoor kitchen and bar, double-sided fireplace, retaining wall and steps, entry pillars, landscaping and plantings, grading, and sod installation. Before any work even began, Alex worked extensively with us through multiple design drafts to ensure every detail was thoughtfully considered and that we ended up with a design that perfectly reflected our vision. She also recommended excellent subcontractors for plumbing, electrical, and other specialized work, all of whom did a fantastic job. She worked closely with the town throughout the permitting process as well, which went remarkably smoothly and quickly.
Once construction began, Alex and her team were incredibly organized, dependable, and hardworking. They were on-site every day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and it was clear how much pride they took in their work. Alex is exceptionally detail-oriented and proactive, making sure the site was properly prepared, materials were ready, and everything was coordinated to keep the project moving on schedule. Her communication was outstanding. I always knew what was happening, what was coming next, and what decisions needed to be made. She gave me plenty of advance notice to consider options and made sure I felt comfortable and completely happy with every aspect of the project.
What impressed me most was that their commitment didn't end once the major construction was finished. Alex and the team followed through on all the finishing touches, including building our shed and deck boxes, helping us select the right stones for the fireplace, and offering thoughtful recommendations for outdoor furniture. Nothing felt like an afterthought, and they made sure all the little details were addressed to bring the entire space together.
A project of this size has so many moving parts, and having someone as organized, knowledgeable, responsive, and genuinely invested in the outcome as Alex made all the difference. The entire team was a pleasure to work with, and the finished backyard is everything we hoped for and more.
Five stars without hesitation! I would recommend Alex, Mr. Smitty, and the entire team to anyone considering a landscaping or outdoor living project. They delivered exceptional workmanship, a seamless process, and an experience that made what could have been a stressful undertaking genuinely enjoyable. There is no other company like Smitty’s. This is a professionally run family enterprise that exceeds expectations at every level — communication, quality, speed, and thoroughness. It’s run hands-on by the owner, Dan (aka Smitty), who puts the customer first in every circumstance and personally inspects every job to make sure it’s done right. From day one of any project, he exceeds expectations, and it shows in his crews — respectful, hard-working, meticulous, and consistently excellent.
I use Smitty’s for Christmas lights, irrigation, pool design and installation, landscape lighting, and extensive hardscape work, and every single project has been flawless.
