One of the best things I’ve done for my musical life. They teach you the skills to play in any situation. The pace is customized to your level and everyone is very willing to work with you. I highly recommend the school for any level of musician‼️👍🏾🎶
Studying at this school was the single most musically enriching experience of my life. I would recommend it heartily to anyone interested in going, even if it is just for a week (although I would suggest at least a month). I will go into further detail for those interested:
First of all, the harmony and ear training curriculum is worth the money in itself. Those classes are taught by Matt Bokulic, also my piano teacher while I was there. The improvement in my ear and fundamental knowledge of western musical concepts in those classes was tremendous.
Second, the private instruction is excellent, as you can imagine. As I said Matt was my piano teacher and he and the other teachers teach strict fundamentals like nothing I have ever seen. Students of whatever level immediately gain some meaningful facility on their instrument.
Third, the daily group classes. Talk about musical bootcamp! No matter your level, you will be solo-ing and comping in a group, and it better be chord tones lol. But playing with peers from all over the world, daily, was simply an awesome experience, one I doubt you can find anywhere outside of a major conservatory.
All in all, it was worth every penny I spent and every second I was there (about 6 months). I will add a few words of caution: 1. the curriculum is extremely jazz-centric. There are valid reasons for this, and everyone should be familiar with jazz. However I am personally tired of the jazz scene. Second, it is a small school, and while it is accredited by the primary music-school body, your credits will not transfer directly to any university or college, and you won't be able to use federal grants.

I attended the Players School of Music one-week-intensive about 15 years ago as a drummer, and it was one of the BEST decisions I've ever made. I learned SO MUCH in that one week, it was mind-blowing! Since then I've been to many other "intensives", been to NAMM classes year-after-year, and I've taken private lessons from many renowned players who were and/are doing world tours, but nothing has come remotely close to my experience at the Players School. I remember when I got situated in my room at PSM and my private drum instructor called me after returning from a world tour and said "You're at PSM?!
Whoa! Congratulations, I'm jealous!"
You wont just learn how to be a better player, you'll be transformed into an all-around, confident & knowledgeable musician. You know the saying "Catch a man a fish and he'll eat for the day, but teach a man to fish and eat for life"? ..... well, The Players School of Music taught me how to fish about 15 years ago, and since then, I've been enjoying a musicians life, regularly using the skills I acquired at the PSM. Other schools out there might focus on one thing, teaching you this & that, but PSM teaches you what you need to know then AND later, so you can continue growing as a musician after you return home. The teachers were world-class musicians, down-to-earth, and made me feel very comfortable. I've reached out to those same teachers many times over the years, and they were always there for me, no questions asked.
You're probably asking yourself "Why is he writing this review 15 years later"? ..... Well, after 20+ years of being a drummer and musician, I've recently built a recording studio in my home. I have dozens of diplomas and certificates from training over the years, and I've been looking forward to framing and hanging these credentials on the wall to let perspective clients see my training. After digging them all out, I couldn't find the one certificate that meant the most to me - the Player s School certificate. So I called PSM, and spoke with Vicki. 15 years later, she not only remembered me, but she was excited to hear from me, and more than happy to replace this certificate. So it got me thinking that I should write this review so everyone else would know what to expect from PSM.
Do yourself a favor & experience the Players School of Music! You wont regret it!

Dear James, what a comment! You know, I feel that each student is a precious gift of life! Our goal at PLAYERS School of Music is to "make musicians" and make them confident about their instrument and about their craft. I am glad you came along and became part of our musical family. I attended the 4-Week-Programme a couple of years ago and I‘m still considering it to be the „thing“ that had the biggest musical impact in my musicianship and my career as a professional musician. The concept and the teachers at Players School are just one of a kind and i‘m still working on and with the musical content i got taught at PSoM. Also the family-athmosphere is a big plus which motivates you to be around the school and practice, jam and soak up as much musical Information as you can during the stay.
