I never thought I’d be the kind of person to try salsa dancing. I signed up to push myself out of my comfort zone—but it offered me more than I could imagine. Walking into that first class as a person with one hand, I wasn’t sure how it would go. But at Salsa Beat, none of that mattered. Everyone is welcome…

When I think about how I learned salsa, I took one formal ballroom dance class back in college, and the rest of my learning has been from experience of social dancing. It’s interesting unpacking the “whole” into small parts, and seeing the design up close… like taking an anatomy class;) It’s also empowering as a follower to have a deeper understanding of patterns, and more agency, as opposed to depending on the lead to know what they’re doing. 🙃🙀😉 Yesterday, in particular, I learned from Erica to think about my neck and frame:) Erica and Juan are constantly filling the learning space with tips and pointers-artfully, with metaphors and humor. 💙 As a teacher, I’m also enjoying the perspective of a being a student. I’d love to continue:) Juan and Erica have created something admirable -their great curriculum design delivered with positive energy, style, and expertise deserve to be celebrated.💕

Hi Juan & Erica, I just wanted to thank you for an amazing 6 weeks of dance classes!! You’ve created a wonderful environment that’s welcoming, fun and positive. There are so many things to love about your classes and system. This experience has given me back some of my confidence after becoming so discouraged dancing in SD. I leave class each week with my heart full of joy like I used to feel in the early years of my salsa obsession. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into your classes and students. It’s clear you both truly love what you do.

I never thought I’d be the kind of person to try salsa dancing. I signed up to push myself out of my comfort zone—but it offered me more than I could imagine. Walking into that first class as a person with one hand, I wasn’t sure how it would go. But at Salsa Beat, none of that mattered. Everyone is welcome here—any age, any background, any ability. There’s no judgment, only encouragement. What you learn goes far beyond dance steps. You learn how to connect, how to trust yourself and your partner, and how to move with confidence. When I moved to San Diego, I didn’t know many people. Now I’ve found a community that feels like home—and it all started with one class. If you’ve ever thought “maybe one day I’ll try salsa,” let this be your sign. That one step could open up a whole new world.

Their business is geared towards making you comfortable and confident. They also offer online classes if you cannot make their live instruction which funny story my cousin and I were in Mexico, and he shared that from the city where he resides (Palo Alto) they have a lot people watching the online videos as Juan and Erica are very thorough and take their time teaching folks.

I want to continue taking lessons with him. He is very patient and it is great how he can clearly breakdown a specific move that I’m having a problem with or just need a clarification. I have been loving salsa beat SO MUCH so far. I think it’s really unique how you call everyone by their names- it makes me feel seen and valued. I really like the structure of the class and the clarity of what we are learning. Also I really appreciate the attention to detail you give all of us students, especially when you noticed I was having a hard time getting the steps right, it was very impactful to me that you guys pulled me to specifically work on it to make sure I understood and got it :) I’ve been feeling much more confident social dancing now even with just two classes- thank you so much!! 💕

Just finished my last level 0 class and wanted to share how AMAZING the teachers are (Becky & Antonio)!! They really encourage everyone and explain the steps so clearly. They even give fine tuning tips after class to those of us who ask and want to challenge ourselves even more. They are awesome!! Erica and Juan are great, too- they are so organized and have fantastic communication (they personalize their email responses if you contact them with any questions). This program works! Thank you!
