Disappointed in the sloppiness of the mechanical technicians, although very favorable impressed by the service and courtesy I received from Andrew Lopez, the Service Advisor. Unfortunately he does not get the support from the crew doing the mechanical work.

Friendly staff but I would avoid taking your hybrid here. I went here because of all the good reviews but their service/diagnostic was very underwhelming. Came in with a check engine light on my Prius and they told me my headgasket was bad and that I needed a new engine. I went to another shop and they fixed the car by replacing the ignition coils and my water pump. If I listened to this shop I would have paid $7,500 for something I didn't need...

To provide context for anyone reading this, our technicians inherited a highly complex situation, as you had already dismantled the dashboard and instrument assembly during a DIY attempt before bringing the vehicle to us. The pricing and labor reflected the extra work required to piece the assembly back together, which you approved beforehand. I was in an emergency situation on a Sunday when I started hearing a horrible sound coming from one of my wheels. I jacked up my car on the side of the road, took the wheel off, and realized that my brake pads were completely worn down to the metal on one side, while the other side still had a plenty brake pad left. This is obviously not normal. There had to be an issue with either the brake caliper, brake hose, or somewhere in the greater hydraulic/ABS system causing such a huge discrepancy between the two sides. I was desperate to get this fixed the next morning because I use my vehicle for work and I also live in my van. I went to ABC because they had availability. From the beginning, I was VERY clear that I didn’t just want a regular brake job. I wanted them to actually figure out what was causing the problem and I was willing to pay extra for the diagnostic work. I was shocked when the service advisor who I’d been talking to you from the beginning, Isaac, came back and told me I just needed new pads and rotors. I said, “But what about the caliper?” Obviously something was causing one side to completely destroy the pads. We went to the back and I showed him what was going on. He then told me that I needed a new caliper on the side where the brake pads were still thick and working properly not the other. I was shocked because at that point I realized he didn’t seem to understand cars on a basic level. Why would I replace the caliper on the side that was working fine? We went back inside to decide what parts I was getting one caliper or both. I stood my ground and said that I wanted a caliper on the side where the pads had been completely worn down, NOT the working side. I also told him that I would have liked for them to test the calipers before deciding. He told me they couldn’t check the caliper. Crazy talk - a technician should be able to check a caliper and brake hose - me and my dad have done it many times at home with intermediate knowledge. But I didn’t argue with him, I just said, “You should be able to check it, but that’s OK. I’ll just get the 1 caliper.” Then Isaac threatened me that they wouldn’t do ANY of the work on my car because it seemed like I wouldn’t be satisfied with anything they did. This was hard, there was such an obvious power imbalance. I am a homeless woman who lives in my vehicle, stranded, desperately needing this work done. I went into a survival/fawn response and started reassuring him: “No, everything’s OK. I really need this work done.” After, I went for a walk and cried because I felt powerless. I was being threatened for asking reasonable questions about a major safety issue. While I was out, Isaac called me and told me that they DID check the caliper, and it WAS getting stuck. Lmao. This was exactly what I had been trying to get them to check from the beginning. What I really wanted was for them to figure out WHY it was getting stuck but I was in survival mode at that point, so I just said thank you and asked, “When you get the new brakes on, can you at least check if they continue to get stuck?” He said yes. When I eventually got back to the shop, I had to get my phone charger from my car, so I went back to where the technician was working. The new brakes were already on. I asked him if they were going to check whether the new caliper was getting stuck like the old one. He said, “These are new brakes. We don’t need to check them. They work.” Crazy talk because if the underlying problem were the brake hose or hydraulic system, putting a new caliper on the car would not necessarily solve the problem. The new caliper could potentially get stuck too. I tried explaining this, but he basically ignored me. At that point, I completely gave up and just waited. I paid $975 for two rotors, pads, and one caliper. They also charged me 3.5 hours of labor, which is higher than the nationwide average of 2 to 2.5 hours. I drove the car around all day and at first, the brakes were fine, but eventually they were making noises I’ve never heard before but who wants to go back there?
Thank you for sharing your experience. We understand how stressful an unexpected brake problem can be, especially when you depend on your vehicle every day. We’re sorry our communication left you feeling unheard. We would like to clarify the inspection and repairs performed. After removing the wheels, we found the right-side brake pads worn down to metal, while the left-side pads had approximately 8 mm remaining. The initial recommendation for pads and rotors addressed the visibly damaged components; further inspection addressed the uneven wear. You were present when we opened the bleeder screws on both sides and demonstrated brake fluid flow. Separately, we checked the caliper pistons for resistance when retracting them. The right piston was extremely difficult to push back, consistent with a sticking caliper. The left piston also showed resistance, although less than the right. Replacement of both calipers was discussed, and you authorized replacement of the right-side caliper only. We replaced the front pads and rotors and the right-side caliper, performed a brake fluid exchange, and checked brake operation afterward. At completion, the brakes were operating normally. Your questions about brake safety were reasonable, and you deserved clear explanations throughout the process. We take your concerns about how those conversations were handled seriously. We had not been made aware of the noises you experienced afterward until reading this review. Please contact me (Isaac) directly so we can arrange an inspection and address your concerns. As explained during your visit, our repairs include a nationwide warranty, and we stand behind our work.
