I just had an awesome experience working with Phil at Got Memories with old VHS tapes that I had and some old 8 mm tapes that I had. There was mold on some of the tapes and he was able to clean them and recover my precious videos. I highly, highly recommend this company!

Phil Tomas saved our family’s trove of forgotten events, moments, loved ones long past and moments that bring back our lives together lived back then. Phil’s remarkable work offers the best means of saving moments, memories and joys – especially when contrasted to cookie-cutter and often untrustworthy, mass-production alternatives.
Phil is a technical Master and seasoned Artisan. He does what few, if any others, do – retrieve fragile fragments of our past. Hopefully, you can see no trustworthy assembly-line alternatives exist. Watch a few of Phil’s YouTubes to view the skill, technical acumen and creative talent necessary for the job. Vastly cheaper options are fools’ gold.
My journey is just one example of this certainty.
My brother’s widow sent me our parents’ home 8mm films (1940s-70s). I procrastinated doing anything with them. Years went by.
My grown kids, tired of hearing me say, “I should do something with that stuff.” So, they gifted me a “Box” to send films and video tapes off to an assembly line alternative. But I still delayed. I bought another “Box” to send more items. But hesitancy to just pack them off continued for years. There were scores of ads about how efficient, timely and easy it is to send material off that returned pristinely digitized. But a paucity of details about quality control, customer service, employee expertise, etc. made me more skeptical. And those concerns grew exponentially after reading independent reviews.
Then I found Phil’s YouTubes that showed the difficulties of retrieving imprisoned images captured in long gone formats. This required an effort analogous to an archeologist’s careful extraction of ancient artifacts. Digitizing these dinosaurs filled with precious memories is an extremely difficult, complex and time-consuming task. It demands an experienced, gifted and creative technician and artist to pull it off. Don’t think you can just send boxes off or go to a library and use a do-it-yourself borrowed converter.
To properly retrieve videos captured by dying or dead formats -- many moldy, poorly stored and even broken -- a true Master Technician and Gifted Artisan is necessary. A person experienced and long schooled in both the science and art of restoration of memories captured on dying or dead formats. If you try to go cheap, you probably will be very disappointed or possibly lose the last best chance to recover your memories.
Phil was undoubtedly, my best possible option. His prices are very fair but realistic. There are some things in life, you just can’t go cheap. You get what you pay for. That was the case for me when it came to my family’s past history and journey locked in old, aging cassette and film carriers.

Everything you mentioned in the review is spot on in terms of the skill and time required to get any semblance of quality off these old tapes with the old players, it’s not plug and play as many assume, gosh I wish it was because I wouldn’t have as many grey hairs as I do lol!
