Positive feedback frequently highlights friendly staff, clear communication regarding treatment plans, and gentle handling of anxious or difficult pets, with many noting long-term loyalty to the practice. However, recurring criticisms include high pricing for standard services, a new AI phone system that causes communication breakdowns, and occasional reports of rushed appointments or unorganized scheduling.

We are very pleased after our first visit! Staff is very friendly, handles pets gently and calmly and communicated efficiently with results/reminders. We were able to make a new patient appointment within the week of our adoption! I will say the waiting area is somewhat small. There were only two dogs in the area with owners and minimal seats available. The dogs were also very interested in our kittens/carrier so we did need to stand in front of the door to stay away which made us feel in the way. Overall very happy to have found a trustworthy vet right down the street!

Dr. Shah is absolutely wonderful. We have a 130-pound Rottweiler, and we've encountered many vets who clearly aren't comfortable with the breed but Dr. Shah is nothing like that. She treats our dog like family, showing no fear and nothing but warmth and affection. Her care has been outstanding, from managing his GI issues to addressing his early joint concerns. She's the main reason we continue to bring our dog to Melrose Animal Clinic, and we recommend her to everyone we know.

Summary: Would NOT recommend. Denied our sick, dehydrated cat basic fluids on an almost 90-degree day. They are very overpriced and charge urgent care pricing for "standard practice" visits.
We took our 15 year old senior cat in last week for an exam and pre-dental blood test as she has a decaying tooth and is in pain that is impacting her ability to eat and drink comfortably on her own. The vet confirmed she has a badly decaying molar and ran a blood test - which for $330 and almost a week later we still have no results for (even emergency vets charge less than this for full senior panel tests with immediate in-house results) - and the vet gave her sub-q fluids to boost her hydration as, again, drinking on her own is incredibly painful with her tooth decay. The fluids perked her up, she got significant energy back, and had more interest eating and drinking on her own.
Fast forward to today, just five days later.. we notice she is looking a bit dehydrated again as she has begun drinking less over the past 5 days. It was 88 degrees and hot, and she was clearly uncomfortable. We go online and setup a vet tech appointment for sub-q fluids, which is literally offered on their website as a "vet tech" appointment and not a full vet appointment. We show up, and realize quickly we made a mistake and scheduled the appointment for Thursday and not today. Fair enough, we still ask if they can fit her in and that we were willing to wait as administering fluids takes no more than 3 minutes and does NOT require a vet - any vet technician can do it. I've even done it for months on my own with a prior cat so I can definitely confirm this.
The receptionist Kelly had an attitude off the bat and went to "check with the doctor" to see if they could fit us in, and when she came back she said "Yeah this shouldn't be a tech appointment" and told us we needed to schedule a full vet visit on a future date. For literally just sub-q fluids? Your own website offers it as a vet TECH appointment. We explained our cat is dehydrated, uncomfortable, and isn't drinking much on her own. We had also been there FIVE DAYS earlier and spent over $700 on all of her testing and care to prep her for a dental. Kelly tells us again that they won't help us. We told her, "well she is dehydrated and needs fluids so we're going to an urgent care" and Kelly just stared at us and didn't say a word. Completely careless, rude, inconsiderate and disgusting.
A 15-year old senior cat who was seen by your own doctors less than a week prior who's not drinking water on her own, on a hot 88-degree day, and all we needed was hydration fluid, and they turned her down completely and let us walk out the door. Absolutely in disbelief this happened; they never even said, "We can do it tomorrow, we're full today" or anything supportive, they never suggested we go to an ER or urgent care, nothing. Just straight up denied our cat hydration when she was declining and let us walk out the door hopeless with my friend in tears.
We planned to get her dental within the month so this is all just temporary carryover care to help her through her pain and dehydration now. Administering fluids to a cat is probably the fastest, most basic, harmless and simple task any vet tech or vet can possibly do. We ended up going to the Saugus Urgent Care facility on Rt. 1 and the veterinarian there along with all of the vet techs were shaking their heads in complete disbelief that Melrose Animal Clinic turned our Winnie down for something as simple as sub-q fluids. The Saugus facility confirmed Winnie was, in fact, dehydrated and gave fluids immediately.
We will now be seeking a dental elsewhere for not only Winnie, but our other adult cat who is need of one as well, and will never return to this facility or suggest it to anyone. In fact, I'll suggest everyone I talk to go elsewhere. To deny a sick, dehydrated senior cat basic fluids and not even offer any fragment of hope is despicable. Shame on this practice and shame on the receptionist for her lack of attention to a serious, easily-curable issue
Response from the owner · a week ago
Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns about Winnie's care. We're sorry that your experience left you feeling frustrated and worried about her well-being. We understand how distressing it is when a pet is uncomfortable or having difficulty eating and drinking, particularly when you're seeking help on short notice. We take your feedback about appointment availability, communication, diagnostic results, and costs seriously. We also recognize how important it is for clients to receive clear guidance when immediate care cannot be accommodated. While we cannot discuss individual medical circumstances publicly, we would welcome the opportunity for our medical director and practice manager to review your experience directly with you. Please contact our hospital if you would be willing to discuss your concerns further.
