I have been with South Shores Animal Hospital for over 20 years. The staff is friendly and professional. I always see Dr. Suzuki. She has taken care of my dogs and cat. She is friendly professional and knowledgeable. My animals love her. I would recommend this facility to my family and friends.

The entire team at South Shores Animal Hospital are fantastic! They are professional and provide outstanding care. I have been a client for 10 years (3 cats). They are an AAHA accredited animal hospital. If you are looking for a Vet, I highly recommend South Shores Animal Hospital.

When I have an issue with my Chorkie, who getting to be quite the grandpa doggie, they are able to get me in to see a doctor right away. Most recently, my Chorkie was very sick: no energy, vomiting & diarrhea. And couldn't get him to eat anything, even his favorite treats. I took him in. Test were done. Meds given & we went home. He wasn't getting better so I called South Shore. They got back to me right away with an alternative medication. My Chorkie improved overnight! Then I had questions on if meds should be continued so I emailed South Shore. A doctor got back to me right away & let me know what course of action was best. Followed recommendations & now he is all better. Really appreciate the wonderful care given to my Chorkie & the follow-up is the best, as well as how South Shore communicates with their clients. Was very pleased that we were not billed for all the "after" care phone calls & emails. Thank you!

Having taught at Iowa State University for 20 years and utilizing their world-class veterinary teaching hospital, I know what excellent, collaborative, and evidence-based medicine looks like. Unfortunately, South Shores falls entirely short. My 15.5-year-old Westie is completely deaf, has had recent neurological/vestibular events, and yesterday suffered a sudden brain misfire that triggered a massive barking episode. The physical exertion caused a newly discovered oral mass to rupture and bleed heavily. When I reached out to South Shores for help, and this isn't the first time because they are aware of his condition, I explicitly stated that due to his advanced age, profound deafness, and neurological instability, I was declining high-risk anesthesia and surgery. I wanted to choose a compassionate, comfort-first palliative care plan from home to protect his immediate quality of life. Instead of partnering with me or showing an ounce of empathy, the staff completely shut me down. I was told that surgery was my "only option," and clearly seemed unwilling to even discuss or prescribe basic non-invasive palliative treatments—like oral steroids to safely deflate the inflammation, targeted pain management, or a rescue sedative for his brain misfires. They effectively abandoned a dedicated client in a moment of crisis because I chose to prioritize my dog's comfort over an invasive surgical table. If you have a senior pet and believe in hospice, dignity, and palliative care, please take them elsewhere. This clinic operates on a rigid, one-size-fits-all model and lacks the compassion required to handle the delicate end-of-life journey.
