I had a great experience with Stellar Movers. All the guys were very careful with all my belongings and were very polite. I’d highly recommend!
My move started out okay, other than one of the movers dropping my bins down a flight of stairs, which when I asked him not to do he told me he had done it to show one of the other movers “what not to do”. From here this mover had an attitude with me for the rest of the day.
Things also proceeded okay for the first hour of the move in, until one of the movers left, which I had not been notified about when receiving a quote for 4 movers. The pace slowed significantly from here. The 3 remaining movers struggled to communicate as a team. One mover split off to spend an extended length of time (1.5 hours) assembling my beds, both of which I have assembled 5+ times myself in under 15 minutes each. This was the same mover I had asked not to throw my bins down the stairs.
The other two movers asked him repeatedly and explicitly to stop assembling the beds and help with boxes. When I discussed this with other two movers and asked if everything was okay, they directly stated to me “he’s just wasting time”. When I checked in with the mover struggling to assemble the furniture to see if there was anything I could do to help, I was also shut down.
Ultimately the move took an extra hour, and would’ve taken longer except I ended up moving and assembling a large number of the items myself in order to expedite things. I was charged an extra $230 for the hour of overtime, which I felt was not at all appropriate given the clear breakdown of communication and the direct statement by the other two movers that the third was wasting time.
The owner Jazey told me that since I myself had never explicitly told him to stop assembling the furniture, that I must pay the overtime, and that one mover must be assembling furniture while the others move in items in order to efficiently complete the move. This may be the most efficient workflow in a fully functioning 4-man team but it clearly was not the case for this move. I frankly expected that he would listen to the other movers directly telling him to stop, and that me saying so would be redundant given how clearly and repeatedly they had asked him to stop.
Jazey spoke to me like I was stupid for questioning the way this move had unfolded and ultimately agreed only to take 20 minutes off the cost.
Additionally I was told I would owe a 3% processing fee if I paid with my credit card, as I had for my deposit. This was not disclosed at any point during the process of setting up the move.
Based on this experience I will not use Stellar Movers again and would caution friends and family about hiring them.
