I was referred to Dr Tankersley by my primary care doc about 6 years ago because I had experienced 5 sinus infections in 18 months. I had never thought of myself as having allergies but I tested positive for several things. Dr Tankersley started me on a 5-year course of allergy shots which I finished in Nov of 2025. The proof is in the pudding, as they say, and I have had less than 1 sinus infection each year since I started the shots. I don't use any products like Claritin or Flonase. My improvement has been dramatic.
Thank you for taking the time to share your positive experience!

I have been a patient at the Tankersley Clinic for over two years, primarily visiting the downtown branch until its abrupt closure. I respected the doctor and was willing to travel to the Collerville location since I was already there twice a week for other appointments. However, my recent experience has left me feeling abandoned and neglected. On my latest visit, I was called back by the clinic's secretary, who took me into a room outside the allergy shot area. I was comfortable with her, as she had previously administered my allergy shots. However, this time was different. She gave me shots in both arms, but my left arm began to pulsate and hurt excruciatingly. I have received allergy shots for years, and I have never experienced pain like this before. It was so intense that I nearly cried. The young lady assisting with the shots eventually brought me ice, which helped somewhat, but the pain persisted. When the doctor came in, I was offered a steroid, which offended me because he knows I prefer to avoid steroids unless absolutely necessary. After my visit, my arm continued to hurt, and shortly thereafter, my throat started to close up and became sore—symptoms I had never experienced before. The doctor assured me that the discomfort should subside within a day, but it only worsened. I became extremely sick, experiencing significant drainage and coughing. When I contacted my primary care physician, they advised me to reach out to the clinic. Unfortunately, the clinic is closed on Fridays and doesn't operate a standard Monday-to-Friday schedule, which made it challenging to get help. I sent an email but received no response for a week. By Saturday, unable to endure the pain in my arm and the reaction I was having, I went to the hospital. They performed an ultrasound on my arm and couldn't find anything wrong. However, they suggested that the nurse might have mistakenly administered the shot into my muscle rather than the intended area, explaining the severe pain. This confirmation made me anxious about the possibility of receiving the wrong medication, given my adverse reactions. While I was reassured by the hospital staff, I still feel a lingering sense of discomfort and stiffness in my left arm. The clinic staff, including the white lady with brown hair who administered my shot, did apologize over the phone but not when it first happened, but I can't shake the feeling that the mistake was made either intentionally or carelessly. It raises the question: why was she giving me a shot when she was acting as a secretary and taking me in a room and bringing the valves outside of the assigned area for shots? I’ve never encountered such a situation before, and it has left me questioning the clinic’s protocols and staff training. I am sharing this experience as a warning to others considering allergy shots at this clinic. I was perfectly fine when I walked in, and now, nearly two weeks later, I’m still feeling sick. I find it difficult to trust this clinic anymore—not because of the doctor, whom I respect, but due to the actions of his staff. I urge potential patients to be cautious and consider this when making decisions about their care.

Thanks, Caroline! We are so grateful you provided us the opportunity to participate in your care.
Had an appointment at 12pm, waited over 50 minutes (still did not get seen) decided to leave only to find Dr. Tankersley standing at the desk outside. Requested to reschedule. What is causing me to not want to return in the future was the fact that the issue was made to seem like it was my fault. He first asked me was I a new patient, which I believe he should know that I am not looking back on my records, I was here a week ago (however I am aware that a certain amount of time may indicate who’s new and who’s not). I overheard him discussing with another person who works there about my appointment “you have a patient for xxxx testing” which is what was said by her. He told me that I should have told the receptionist what my appointment was for and that would have gotten me seen sooner “less than 5 minutes”. I did not know being specific about my appointment dictated to urgency here. I also do not feel comfortable disclosing that information with the receptionist in a waiting room with other people possibly around to hear. And as my doctor I feel like it his job to know about my appointment regardless (which he did). I understand he may see multiple patients everyday but it is NOT my job to do that, especially if he did not even come into the room yet. He also mentioned a talk we had the week before about what I should of told the receptionist for when I came in today, we never had a talk about that, and again it is not my job. Was about to send my sister, dad, and fiancé here but unfortunately will NOT. This conversation happened between 12:55-1pm 8/5 if anyone would like to check cameras. I also recorded this conversation on my phone.
Reagan, Thank you for your feedback, and we’re truly sorry your visit left you feeling frustrated and blamed. That was never our intention, and we sincerely apologize for the poor experience. For clarity: your appointment was scheduled only for testing, which is processed through a separate, expedited pathway. Because the front desk was not informed it was testing-only, you were unfortunately placed in the regular provider queue. We only ask our patients to report to our front desk staff their appointment is for testing. There’s no need to share what type of testing. When he realized the mix-up, Dr. Tankersley spoke with you and immediately offered to complete the testing right then (in under 5 minutes) or to reschedule for a day and time of your choice. You chose to reschedule, which of course was completely your decision and your right. Dr. Tankersley also personally had your copay refund processed that same day to make amends for the inconvenience. Dr. Tankersley is sorry he didn’t instantly recognize you at the nurse’s station a week after your initial visit—with the volume of patients we see, he sometimes needs to pull the chart first, and that was his oversight. We truly value you and your family and would love the chance to regain your trust. Please contact us directly at any time—we’ll ensure your next visit (whenever you’re ready) is smooth, private, and on time.
Dr. Tankersley is the best asthma and allergy physician in the Memphis area! My son recently completed oral immunotherapy for cashews with Dr. T and it was a success!! It took approximately 18 months but was well worth the time commitment. My son has also successfully passed 3 other allergy challenges that we had been avoiding for many years ( peanut, almond, pistachio). If you or your child is anaphylactic and you want to talk about next steps, go see Dr. Tankersley and discuss your options.
Allison, oral immunotherapy for food allergy has been a phenomenal advance in the field of allergy. We are so glad your son's course was a success!
Excellent staff and Dr. T is great! They are always helpful with scheduling, respond quickly to emails/calls, and have gone above and beyond with helping me get allergy shots even when traveling for school and work. My asthma is also the most controlled it has ever been and I highly recommend this clinic.
Caroline, your comments mean so much to our staff. Thank you for sharing!
