Dhillon are absolute criminals. They claimed to do both the smog and the break and lamp now vssi inspection. But when confirming my appointment again for the second time that the price they were quoting included both, I was put on hold and then they come back after a while and say sorry our Dyno just went down. Long…

Dhillon's is a DMV certified VSSI (vehile safety system inspection) provider. My 24 year old car was involved in a low speed parking lot accident. The front-end damage was repaired before bringing the car into Dhillon's for a VSSI which is required since my insurance company declared the car a complete loss since they didn't want to pay the full cost of the repair which was ~$4,500. My car failed the VSSI at Dhillon's because of the front struts and rear shock absorbers. Dhillon's offered to rebuild the shocks and struts for 60% of the cost to new ones. I opted to get new components since they would last a lot longer. I really didn't want to replace the shocks, etc. since the car was performing OK and we don't put many miles on the car each year, i.e., only local routine errands, etc. With the failed VSSI I had Dhillon's do a reinspection for ~100. The car passed the inspection this time, thank God! I think Dhillon's mode of operation is to find something they can fail in the test and then offer a cheaper fix by doing rebuilds if possible, even though such a fix is questionable, i.e., longevity, etc. It's probably hard to make enough money doing smog and VSSI's. You have been forewarned!
Hi John, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We appreciate your feedback and would like to clarify a few important points regarding California's Vehicle Safety Systems Inspection (VSSI) program. Dhillon Motorsports is a state-licensed VSSI inspection facility, and our certified technicians are required to follow the inspection procedures and safety standards established by the California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR). Our responsibility is to inspect each vehicle objectively and accurately document any components that do not meet the state's requirements. Our technicians do not determine inspection failures based on potential repair opportunities or revenue. We also want to emphasize that Dhillon Motorsports goes above and beyond the state's inspection requirements by providing customers with a digital vehicle inspection report, including photographs documenting the components that failed inspection. While this additional photographic documentation is not required by the state, we voluntarily provide it to promote transparency, help customers understand the findings, and ensure they can see exactly why a component did not meet the required safety standards. Regarding the struts and shocks, our repair recommendations are based on the conditions identified during the inspection. When a component fails to meet the required standards, we provide an estimate for the necessary repairs. If rebuilding is an appropriate and permissible repair option, we may offer that alternative to help reduce costs. However, customers always have the option to request replacement with new components, as you chose to do. We respect your decision to install new components for their potential long-term reliability. Our goal is to provide customers with repair options while ensuring the vehicle meets California's safety inspection requirements. We would also like to clarify our repair and reinspection policy, which is disclosed in the fine print on our invoices: "CA VSSI repairs are not required to be completed at Dhillon Motorsports. However, if repairs are performed elsewhere, a retest fee will apply. Retests must be completed within 30 days of the initial inspection to qualify for the retest fee. After 30 days, a new inspection fee will be required." We believe customers should have the freedom to choose where their vehicles are repaired. Our responsibility is to perform an accurate inspection and verify that the vehicle meets the required safety standards, regardless of who performs the repairs. The reinspection fee covers the additional inspection work necessary to verify that the previously failed components now meet the applicable requirements. We also want to clarify that our VSSI inspections are not intended to generate additional repair business. As a licensed inspection facility, our responsibility is to follow state regulations, maintain the integrity of the inspection process, and prioritize vehicle safety. We take that responsibility seriously, regardless of whether a customer chooses to have repairs performed at our facility or elsewhere. We're glad your vehicle successfully passed its reinspection, and we appreciate the opportunity to have assisted you. Thank you, Dhillon Motorsports Management

Amazing and professional service and knowledgeable techs. We bring all our cars here for the best service in the Bay Area!
Hello! Thank you, Manu, for choosing us for your car service needs! We are thrilled to hear that you had an amazing experience with our team. We look forward to continuing to provide you with top-notch service in the Bay Area.
Dhillon are absolute criminals. They claimed to do both the smog and the break and lamp now vssi inspection. But when confirming my appointment again for the second time that the price they were quoting included both, I was put on hold and then they come back after a while and say sorry our Dyno just went down. Long story short I finally get there to my appointment 2 weeks later after paying smog my car in Mountain View for $98. I arrive and I see that their name is literally smog man and there's people all around me whipping in and out to get small. Five star, Dyno songs.tbd..
Trish, we’re sorry to see this review, but we are confused by the characterization of Dhillon Motorsports as “criminals,” as the circumstances described in your review do not support that accusation. When you initially contacted us, you were provided information regarding the services you were requesting. Unfortunately, our dynamometer experienced an equipment issue, which affected our ability to perform certain smog inspections at that time. Rather than have you arrive for a service we could not complete, our team informed you of the equipment issue. We understand that having to make other arrangements for your smog inspection was inconvenient, but an unexpected equipment failure is outside of our control. When you later arrived for your scheduled appointment, seeing other vehicles receiving smog inspections does not necessarily mean that every type of smog inspection could be performed on your vehicle. Different vehicles and inspections can require different testing equipment and procedures. Most importantly, if you believe you were incorrectly quoted, charged for a service that was not performed, or given inaccurate information regarding your VSSI or smog inspection, we would be happy to review the appointment, authorization, and invoice with you directly. We take customer concerns seriously and are always willing to correct a legitimate mistake. However, publicly referring to our business and employees as “criminals” over an equipment issue or misunderstanding is an extremely serious accusation and does not accurately represent the situation as we understand it. Please contact us directly at Dhillon Motorsports so we can review the details of your visit with you.
My first time here for service. The staff here were very friendly and accommodating. If I need anything else, I know where to go.
