Had a cat hospitalized for three days. While intake can take awhile depending on business and triage priorities, once she was in, everything went as smoothly as possible. Got daily (often twice daily) updates explaining her conditions, why they want to run certain tests, analysis of previous tests run. Seems all tests/labs are run in-house so results come pretty quick. She was able to come home, and though her kidney disease is unfortunately quite advanced, I feel confident I can keep her comfortable and happy for as long as feasible with the help with the internal medicine team, who seem almost as delighted with her as I am.

Do not go to this vet hospital these people have no compassion and empathy!!! OakVet is outstanding. They have treated several of our animals, and I would not trust any other veterinary hospital in case of an emergency or otherwise. I have a very high needs senior dog with chronic stomach issues and was recommended this place. All of the staff here have been the most attentive, caring and responsive people I’ve ever met and I greatly appreciate all of the work they do!

Excellent care, clear communication, well organized. It is a 25 minute drive, and still I would come here over closer alternatives. Dr Funes and Dr Sawyer are wonderful.

Do not go to this vet hospital these people have no compassion and empathy!!! We took out cat to them last night and they were price gouging and saw us in distress and took advantage of our distress and tried to charge us $4500 for something they knew they could not fix for our beloved cat — who ended up passing last night ! Matter of fact they took our cat into another room and didn’t even let us be with him while he was breathing his last breath. AVOID THESE SCAMMING NON EMPATHIC PEOPLE. Our poor baby died in our arms last night at our house. The audacity of this woman who worked there asking us if we want to put out baby down before even letting us know he was going to pass away they knew he was gonna die and tried to price gouge us in our distress!!! Avoid at all costs !! If I could sue them to the point where I could get them shut down I would!!!

In the past, Dr. Funes was our doctor for our special-needs kitty, and she was simply amazing, guiding us through his care. We are working with Dr. Grange as he provides orthopedic care for one of our dogs. The entire staff, from the front desk to the techs, are kind, smart, welcoming, and VERY patient with questions. Do not hesitate to seek them out if your fur babies need medical assistance!
Hi Susan, Thank you so much for sharing your experience and for continuing to place your trust in our team! It truly means the world to us that you've chosen OakVet to care for so many of your beloved pets over the years. We're so happy to hear that Dr. Funes, Dr. Grange, and our entire team have made you feel welcomed, supported, and confident in the care your furry family members receive. We know how much they mean to you, and it's an honor to be part of their lives. Thank you for being part of our OakVet family!
OakVet provided exceptional care for our middle aged doxxy mix through a pretty significant medical journey that included both adrenal and thyroid surgery for carcinoma. From the beginning, we felt like she was in very capable hands. The surgery team was excellent, and we also had great experiences with Internal Medicine and the front desk/info team throughout the process. Communication was clear, follow-up was thoughtful, and the overall quality of care was consistently high. We work in veterinary medicine ourselves, which probably meant we asked more questions, wanted more detail, and occasionally made things a little more complicated than the average client. The OakVet team handled that with patience and professionalism and always kept the focus on our pup. Most importantly, the care felt both technically strong and genuinely compassionate. We are very grateful for what the team did for her and would absolutely recommend OakVet for specialty care.
Hi Emerson, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us! We know how much your sweet girl means to you, and we are truly honored that you trusted our team with her care throughout such a challenging medical journey. It warms our hearts to know that our Surgery, Internal Medicine, and Client Service teams helped you feel supported and reassured along the way. Our patients and their families mean so much to us, and being able to provide both exceptional medicine and genuine compassion is why we do what we do. Please give your sweet girl some extra love from all of us at OakVet!

Hi Joe, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience! We know how special our senior pets are and how challenging it can be to navigate their ongoing medical needs. It means so much to hear that our team has made you feel supported and cared for throughout your pup's journey. We are truly grateful for the trust you've placed in us and are honored to be part of your sweet pup's care. Please give your furry family member some extra love from all of us at OakVet!
Very unpleasant experience with this clinic. My dog suffered pyometra, bleeding profusely and in urgent need of a spay treatment, so I took her there. After checking in, they made us wait 5 hours before a doctor finally showed up. In this process we were basically locked up in their clinic, tired, thirsty and hungry. When I asked if I could go out and grab some food, the gentleman at the desk responded, “It’s like leaving your kid alone at a hospital. Who would do that?” Typical holier than thou gaslighting. Then they proposed a treatment with a bill of over 4k, which is outrageous, so we declined. It didn’t appear to me that they care about animal life at all, but their money, and they don’t mind making you suffer to get it. The very next day, we took our dog to a proper clinic for spay surgery. It only cost us $600. And they never made us wait or passed any moral judgment. AVOID this unprofessional, unethical, hypocritical and money hungry business.
Hi 刘宇琪, We are truly sorry to hear about your experience. We understand how frightening and stressful it can be when your beloved pet needs emergency care, and we sincerely apologize for any miscommunication regarding your pup’s condition, the urgency of her needs, and the expected wait time. In emergency medicine, patients must be prioritized based on the severity of their condition, which can unfortunately lead to longer waits when more critical patients require immediate attention. We also understand that emergency veterinary care can be financially overwhelming. Our pricing reflects the specialized resources and expertise of our board-certified surgeons, who provide care around the clock. We never want anyone to feel dismissed or unsupported during such a difficult time, and we are sorry that this was your experience. Most importantly, we are grateful your pup was stable enough to receive treatment the following day and that she was able to get the care she needed. We sincerely wish her a smooth recovery.
My puppy started coughing last night, and I found this emergency hospital on Google; it had excellent reviews. When I arrived with my dog, the nurses were incredibly warm and patient. Since I am Chinese and my English isn't very strong, they took the time to explain things clearly to me. A male doctor (whose name I didn't catch) patiently explained my dog's condition; whenever I didn't understand a medical term, he used a computer to translate it into Chinese for me. He was an absolutely wonderful doctor. He told me there was nothing seriously wrong with my dog and that unnecessary tests weren't needed—just a few days of observation at home would do the trick. At other emergency hospitals I've visited in the past, they always pushed for various tests that cost a fortune, but this doctor was completely honest. I only paid $179 for the examination—which was cheaper than the fees at my dog's regular vet—so I highly recommend this hospital! I am so grateful to the staff for their patience and honesty.
Hi Xiujun, Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us! We know how stressful it can be when your little one isn't feeling well, and we're so happy our team was able to provide reassurance and compassionate care during your visit. We believe every pet deserves thoughtful, individualized care and every family deserves to feel heard, understood, and comfortable asking questions. It warms our hearts to know that our team made you feel welcomed and supported. We truly appreciate your trust and recommendation, and we hope your sweet pup is feeling much better!
2026 Visits: Dr. Silvia Funes (Internal Medicine) and her assistants were very helpful with my dog on two different issues recently. Dog ate a sock (the same one who got into the medication stash in 2025) so needed endoscopy to have it removed. Dog also had an ongoing condition that my general practice vet recommended I have looked into with Dr. Funes. Several GP vets I respect have recommened Dr. Funes over the years as being very high quality and when high quality vets recommend other vets, you feel better about where you are going. Emergency Dept was helpful and and all vets, staff, and receptionists were great including, but not limited to Drs. Joy Hollenbeck (relief vet - sp?), Joshua Van Geem, and Erin Updegrove; vet techs Tiffany and Monica, receptionists Eric and Heather. Everyone was helpful and took great care of the dog, but I don't remember everyone's name. Suggestions to make the process work well: 1) Have an alternate plan for emergencies in case the Emergency Dept has to close to intake. Sometimes they do IF they get really busy. 2) If you need a written prescription, get it from the first vet that you see. If you wait til later and you got a relief vet, it becomes quite challenging trying to get it filled by another vet. 3) If you have the time, complete the Intake Forms before you get to the vet hospital unless you like doing it at the vet on a cell phone. I completed about 90% of it there and then lost all my data and had to start over. 4) Do some research on the pros and cons of CPR and talk to your General Practice vet about it in advance of an emergency so that you are informed enough to figure out whether you want Basic CPR, Advanced CPR, or DNR. Cons: 1) Intake Forms must be completed on EVERY visit, for EVERY department - would be nice if there was a way to not have to repeat the same information over and over again, particularly if there very recently and nothing changed. 2) If you have a choice between fixing a health issue while you are there or coming back and seeing if it resolves and fixing it in a few days, I'd recommend fixing it while you are there ON THE FIRST VISIT. I didn't know I was going to have to go through the entire Intake Process again and pay another emergency exam fee just to process on from Emergency to the required specialty. Also, you never know if the Emergency Department might close due to intake. It is costly and time consuming to do two visits when you can do one. 3) You have to push a button to get into the parking lot (a nice safety feature), but it can be challenging to hear with the BART trains running above. 4) To manage costs, if x-rays are recommend, ask if an ultrasound will be required later and ask if just an ultrasound would give the desired information. I paid for BOTH and I think the ultrasound would have been sufficient enough to see what was going on. 2025 Visit: All went well. One dog got into medication stash (attracted to chewables) and shared with another dog. Not a good chewable medication to consume. Dogs were monitored for 12 hours each. Each dog was around $1,800. Sometimes, it does not pay to have a spare pet medication stash on hand. $3,600 gone. 2023 Visit: Dr. Andrew Grange cleaned up a surgery done by another vet which did not heal well. Dr. Grange's scrotal uresthrostomy results were spectacular and have held well in a location which makes healing difficult. My general practice vets were impressed as well. Been there before 2023 with other dogs after they first opened, but can't remember anything about the visits.
Hi Ann, Thank you for sharing your experience. We’re glad to hear that both dogs were safely monitored and are doing well after such a scary situation. We truly appreciate your trust in our team during an unexpected emergency.
I’ve been going here for years. OakVet has been my go-to emergency pet hospital for my older dog and cat due to their 24 hour facility.Ove the course of 5 years, we had 4 emergencies between the 2 that required late night or weekend urgent visits. Each time the staff there took great care of my babies. Now onto their non emergency side - my younger dog has a medical condition that required referral from his primary vet to specialist for diagnosis; when we we saw that OakVet was on the list of suggested internal medicine providers, I knew that was where I wanted to go immediately. And I’m so happy I did! 3 years in and Doctor Mathew’s continues to take amazing care of my dog. She is caring, attentive, considerate in her approach, and really takes the time to help owners understand what she is seeing and what our approach should be. And she gives great dog snuggles and treats which my baby appreciates. Offices are always clean, the vet techs are always kind and helpful, and the team goes above and beyond to make sure every pet is seen according to urgency.
Hi Tania, Thank you for trusting OakVet with your beloved pets over the years! We’re grateful to have been there for your family during those late-night and weekend emergencies, and to continue caring for your younger dog through our Internal Medicine team. Your kind words about Dr. Mathew’s thoughtful care and clear communication mean so much. We’ll be happy to share them with her and our emergency team, technicians, and staff. And we’re glad the snuggles and treats have earned your pup’s approval, too! Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and for being part of the OakVet family.
⭐ 1 star — I wish I could give zero. I brought my cat here and waited two hours just to be told the recommended procedure was extremely expensive. After negotiating, they offered a minor procedure at a lower cost, but the medication was also very expensive. Then I waited another about 5 hours for a procedure that took only about 30 minutes. The whole experience felt more focused on money than compassion for the animal. Very disappointing. I would not recommend this hospital and will never return
Hi Najih, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your experience left you feeling that cost was prioritized over compassion, as that is never the experience we want for our clients or patients. Emergency and specialty veterinary care can be costly, and our team makes every effort to provide clear estimates and discuss treatment options before moving forward. When there are concerns regarding the cost of a recommended treatment plan, our medical team may be able to discuss alternative options when they are medically appropriate. This is not a negotiation of our pricing, but rather an effort to work with families to determine what options may be available for their pet. We also understand how frustrating a lengthy wait can be. In an emergency hospital, patients are continually triaged based on medical urgency, which can unfortunately result in longer wait times for stable patients. The length of the procedure itself does not always reflect the time required for evaluation, preparation, treatment, monitoring, and discharge. We appreciate your feedback and are disappointed that your overall experience did not reflect the compassion and care our team strives to provide every patient and family.
