I purchased one custom shade for nearly $8,000, which was 24% higher than the quote I received two years earlier. They promised a 6‑week lead time, but installation took 10 months. The shade was for my newborn’s room — I ordered it in my second trimester and didn’t receive it until I was returning to work from maternity leave. During this period, I sent 155 emails and 28 texts (mostly with the manufacturer, since The Shade Place acted as a middleman and provided little help). The first installation was poor quality, and they came to my home 8 different times to fix it while I was postpartum after a C‑section. I spent numerous hours managing this order instead of caring for my baby. After installation, I requested a partial refund based on the extreme delay and the amount of personal time I had to invest. The owner refused and was disrespectful on the call. There are other places to get custom shades that offer better quality, lower cost, and far better service. I recommend going elsewhere.

I absolutely LOVE my new Hunter Douglas shades! I only wish I had gotten the motorized shades years ago! The Silhouette Duolites are elegant, and with the room darkening shade, I feel secure that I will have resolved my prior issues with fading of floors and furniture in my living room. The Duette Honeycomb shades are a vast improvement over my prior Honeycomb shades which had cords to open them from both the top and bottom; dealing with 4 windows, which had 8 cords, and furniture in front of them was so cumbersome that I rarely opened my bedroom shades. Now, with the touch of a button, I can open all my shades from the opposite end of the room and see my beautiful view. The power view motorized system is functional and fun! Stephan at The Shade Place was a pleasure to work with; he is knowledgeable, helpful, and patient. The installation process went smoothly with Mario. I highly recommend The Shade Place and both of these motorized shades!

Great Products, Unacceptable Service I ordered a Hunter Douglas Luminette and three shade systems for my newly renovated home. The products themselves are fantastic, but the experience working with sales associate Shivani Jolly at The Shade Place Hoboken was terrible. Delays: We were verbally promised a 2–3 week timeline, but installation took over 6 weeks. When I followed up, staff pointed to the fine print in the contract (which states 6–8 weeks). Unprofessional Communication: Shivani ignored repeated requests for updates, was consistently cold, and even yelled at me over the phone when I asked about our order. Across a full home renovation involving numerous contractors, this was by far the worst customer service I encountered. Installation Errors: The team installed a patio door controller in the wrong location, creating significant disruption while we were moving heavy items through the yard. Shivani offered zero apology and spoke to me dismissively when I raised the issue. Owner Stephan eventually stepped in to fix the controller placement and handle the remaining installation politely. However, given the severe stress and poor communication, I will not be returning or recommending this location.
